PROS / You can use it to manage vendors and create purchase orders.
CONS / It lacks a general ledger and the ability to track billable hours.
VERDICT / KashFlow is a good accounting software application for small businesses with basic accounting needs. However, it lacks some features, such as a general ledger, billable hours tracking and check printing.
KashFlow is U.K.-based accounting software that can be used by businesses from many different countries, including the U.S. You can choose from three service plans, but the payroll features in the top plan can only be used by businesses in the U.K. Although this bookkeeping software scored well for ease of use, it lacks some of the functionality found in top-rated accounting software for small business, such as the ability to generate a general ledger, track billable time and print checks.
Setting up an account in this program is quickly accomplished and a helpful list of getting started tasks is listed on the dashboard. If you're a U.S.-based user, you can change the date format and set your home currency to U.S. dollars. Logging back into the program is more complex. A password and a memorable word is preassigned and emailed to you. The program asks you to supply the password and identify three certain letters from the memorable word, such as the fourth, seventh and twelfth letters. Although this offers extra security, it feels clunky.
You can use this small business accounting software to create both quotes and invoices, and you can set it up to automatically create recurring invoices. Converting quotes to invoices can be accomplished in just a few clicks.
Invoice customization isn't as extensive as some of its competitors, unless you're comfortable with HTML and CSS programming. Otherwise, you can choose from two templates and seven fonts, add your logo, a background image, select colors and configure text fields. Alternatively, you can work with the company to have a bespoke template created to your specifications. The software can be set up to automatically send your customers payment reminders. The company's knowledgebase suggests a workaround for tracking and rebilling expenses, but it doesn't track billable hours.
This bookkeeping software can manage vendors, create purchase orders, track bills and record payments. It can run many different accounting reports, and you can also use it to manage inventory as well as fixed assets, such as computer equipment and office furniture. It lacks the ability to print checks.
You can connect your business bank account to this online accounting software to automatically import banking transactions, which is helpful when reconciling your accounts. It includes a projects feature that allows you to associate invoices and payments with a specific job. Several third-party integrations are available if you need to add additional features to the software.
KashFlow doesn't support multiple businesses from a single account. Unlike most of the online accounting software we reviewed, it doesn't have a mobile app. However, you can log into the software from any browser. If you need customer support, you can contact company representatives via a support ticket, email and live chat. The company has a blog, and you can purchase webinars and training videos if you need to learn more about accounting and using this software or if you want to become KashFlow certified.
KashFlow is easy-to-use accounting software for small businesses that you can use to send quotes, invoices and purchase orders, track bills and payments, and reconcile your accounts. It can be used by businesses from several different countries, including the U.S., but the payroll features can only be used by businesses in the U.K. It lacks a mobile app, general ledger and billable hours tracking, and the ability to print checks.
