PROS / There are over 300 free templates you can choose from.
CONS / If you change website hosts, you cannot take your website with you.
VERDICT / While GoDaddy is popular and offers good hosting and customer support, its software can be difficult to use, and it lacks many design and marketing features.
GoDaddy is a popular website creation software application with over 300 free templates and no limit on the number of pages you can create on your site. However, it lacks some of the design and marketing features we looked for that the best website creation software has. Further, our testers found GoDaddy's software more difficult to use than other products on our lineup.
GoDaddy allows you to create a website and edit your pages by dragging and dropping or using an HTML or CSS editor. It also has a free image gallery with a useful image editor. It has social media integration and 301 redirects, and its sites are mobile ready. You can also use a mobile editor so you can edit your website on the go. You can customize footers and add an RSS feed.
While GoDaddy's templates and free images make it easy to customize a website, this website creator has some serious limitations. If you ever cancel service with GoDaddy, you cannot export your website to other programs. Should you need to switch themes, you have to build your website from scratch again, as information does not transfer over from one theme to another. Additionally, you cannot password-protect pages, which can be an issue if you have multiple employees responsible for different parts of the website.
On top of that, we found that GoDaddy was not as user friendly as our top-rated website creation software. The website builder's wizard was not as extensive as the other programs on our lineup. The SEO tools were also less automated than our top products, requiring you to submit your own site to search engines.
GoDaddy does not offer advertising credits, and its eCommerce tools cost extra, though it integrates with PayPal for no extra charge. Thus, if you only sell a few items online, you may not need a full shopping cart platform, just the PayPal link on the product page.
It offers Google Analytics and integration with Google Maps. However, it lacks proprietary analytics and cannot tell you referencing sites. This is something to consider if your business depends on references from other websites. Based on these shortcomings, we awarded GoDaddy an Analytics Score of 73%.
This company offers a free custom domain with its Business plan, which comes with 10GB of storage and an unlimited number of pages. However, you can only create one site with the plan, and you're limited to a single email address, which is standard for website building software.
If you have a question or problem, GoDaddy offers support through live chat and phone, plus it has tutorials and forums to help you learn how to make a website with ease.
GoDaddy is a solid choice for website creation. However, it does not offer many features, such as the ability to transfer themes, proprietary analytics or password-protected pages. It offers solid support and hosting options and is worth considering for website creation software.
