Web Page Maker is decent website creation software that has its strong points, including drag-and-drop functionality and support of scripting languages. However, the application’s lack of key features and templates (the least of any application we reviewed) keep it from being a top contender among the competition.
One of the most disappointing things about Web Page Maker is that the website creation application only has 20 pre-designed templates to choose from. While this may not be an issue if you want a basic, generic website, it’s not ideal if you are looking for template that reflects your specific business.
The website creation software also supports common multimedia types including audio, flash and videos; it does not, however, support animation or QuickTime clips. Moreover, you’ll find a built-in text editor, rollover creation and page transition effects to help you create the perfect site.
Web Page Maker disappointingly does not have spell check or automatic file backup, convenient features in website creation. The latter is useful because it ensures you don’t lose any components of your site if you forget to save before closing the software. Even more disappointing is the software does not offer any beneficial, convenient eCommerce capabilities that allow you to build an eCommerce-friendly website that can easily integrate with shopping carts.
With the exception of a few functionalities, the software offers most of the graphic imaging tools we sought. It has a decent image library and a thumbnail creator. We were most surprised to find the application lacks an image cropping tool, which seems like such an integral and important tool to any website creation application.
Web Page Maker utilizes what’s known as a WYSIWYG interface. WYSIWYG is an acronym for “what you see is what you get,” and it essentially means that the software displays your site in the editor as it will look once it is published and live. This is convenient because it allows you to see exactly how any changes you make during the website creation process will appear to visitors.
However, the page design software seems best suited for more computer-savvy users who can take full advantage of the application’s range of features. If you don't know how or feel comfortable utilizing the features to build a site from scratch, we’d recommend opting for software designed specifically for first-time users.
Web Page Maker Software needs to make some improvements for help and support. Although the help files have a fair amount of content, they are not searchable and do not include an index.
The online resources offered by Web Page Maker are among the weakest we’ve seen. There are only a few meager frequently asked questions, and you can only contact the company via email.
