VERDICT / Shopify POS is a suitable choice if you need to manage a large volume of diverse inventory items since all versions support unlimited items and it supports variations.

Shopify is not just an eCommerce tool; it can also process transactions in brick-and-mortar retail stores. It also integrates retail store inventory with Shopify online stores to conveniently help you expand your market. The Shopify POS system can help you process all types of payments, including credit and debit cards, cash and checks, and loyalty and gift cards. This point-of-sale system does not require a big upfront investment or a long-term contract, making it easy for small businesses to adopt. It can support unlimited inventory items, users and registers, making it an affordable choice for many companies and our Top Ten Reviews Silver Award winner.

Shopify charges different swipe rates per account type, and it is one of the few services that doesn't charge an extra per-transaction fee for swiped transactions. The Basic account is 2.7 percent per swipe, the Professional 2.4 percent and the Unlimited 2.2 percent. Keyed-in rates start at 2.4 percent plus $0.30 per transaction. Subscription discounts are available if you pay your monthly fees in advance. If you pay for one year in advance, you earn a 10 percent discount. Two years in advance provides a 20 percent discount. Two years in advance, even just on the Basic plan, will save you a few hundred in the long run. If you have the upfront budget, paying in advance is well worth considering. The Basic plan supports unlimited products, staff and registers. Each account type also includes 24-hour support. The advanced accounts support gift cards and more reporting options. In addition, Shopify's $15 chargeback fee is one of the lowest in the industry.

You will find Shopify's contract terms quite agreeable. You don't need to sign a long-term agreement, nor will you have to pay early-termination fees. Plus, you can pay month-to-month if desired. As mentioned, there are benefits to paying a year or two in advance, but it is not required. Terms of service (TOS) can be difficult to understand. They are often full of legal language and numerous pages long. Shopify's terms of service, which are published on its website, do include legal language; however, each section also includes an explanation in plain language of what the legal language means to you. We appreciate that the company takes extra steps to help customers understand their obligations.

Payment Processing

Shopify payment processing can process all types of payments: Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover and debit cards. It will also track cash and check payments. The Professional and Unlimited versions also process gift cards. The point-of-sale payment tools can also be customized to process unique payment types such as mobile phone payments, IOUs, partial payments, split bills or store credit. You can also use Shopify to process discounts, unique tax rates and one-time pricing. Your customers can get a paper receipt, or you can email one to them and save paper. Emailing receipts also gives you the opportunity to capture customers' contact information.

Management Features

This point-of-purchase system is designed for retail, so most management tools are retail-oriented. For example, it includes advanced inventory tools, and all accounts can manage an unlimited number of items. Products can be organized by category, type, season, sales campaign or other. Products can also be easily sorted by vendor, price or even stock levels. Shopify can manage variations such as color and size, and you can assign a SKU and price for each variation. Of course, it can also manage low-inventory alerts and track stock between retail and your online store. With its emphasis on retail features, this may not be the ideal restaurant POS system, but it is great for many types of stores.

While advanced reporting is included with the upgraded versions, the Basic version will help you manage your cash counts, daily totals and order histories. You can also track product sales and staff sales to help you make informed decisions about your retail store. The management dashboard is available for mobile phones so you can manage your store from anywhere.

Customer Care

Shopify provides 24/7/365 customer support to all of its customers. If you encounter an issue, you can contact the company by telephone, email or live chat. You can also follow the service on social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest and Instagram. You can view manuals, helpful videos, blog posts and forum conversations to learn more about how best to use Shopify. This point-of-sale company also provides an eCommerce University to help you with your Shopify online store and your physical online store. If you require one-on-one assistance, Shopify-approved experts are available to assist you.

This POS system is a capable option for retail locations such as boutiques, specialty shops, clothing stores and gift shops. It can manage inventory as well, and it is helpful for those who want to integrate with an online Shopify eCommerce store. Upfront costs are minimal and you do not have to make a long-term commitment, making it an attractive option for new businesses.
