Scheduling by TwistedMind makes scheduling for small businesses uncomplicated by offering the most basic of tools and capabilities. It’s web based, so you don’t have to download or install any programs, and you, your managers and employees can access it from any computer or mobile device with an internet connection. However, the scheduling software is extremely limited in what it can do and the reports it can generate.

Among the tools available, Scheduling offers you the ability to post your schedules online, which is helpful so your employees can find out what hours they work without having to come into your business during off-hours or on their days off. Your data is stored on Scheduling’s servers, which are backed up frequently. If anything goes wrong with the server, Scheduling’s tech team can restore the data. Although you can't text your employees their hours through this program, and there isn’t a mobile app, you can email them and they can log onto the application with their own account.

This software is very easy to use for managers and employees. If you have any schedule conflicts, the online scheduling application will warn you. Your workers are able to bid on open shifts and swap with each other. They can also make time off requests from the application, and you or your manager will receive notification so they can approve or deny the request. Some of the best employee scheduling software gives you useful functions – drag and drop, the ability to import and export data, and calendar synchronization – none of which are available in Scheduling.

You only get four basic reports through Scheduling’s application. The four reports are important – employee hours, hours by location, requests off and a contact list – but the program lacks some very helpful reports that could tell you much more about how your business is faring.

The help and support section is missing many resources, such as FAQs and a knowledgebase, which are essential for new users. Although Scheduling by TwistedMind does not offer the most comprehensive support system, the company answers any question by email or phone as thoroughly and promptly as it can.

The minimalist approach can work well for smaller businesses that are looking for a simple solution to scheduling. Scheduling by TwistedMind achieves exactly that, but it doesn’t go beyond the bare basics. The employee scheduling software is a good value for someone who doesn’t need the extras, but the service doesn't scale with your business as conveniently as other services in our review do.
