The Brother MFC-L6700DW multifunction wireless laser printer produces decent-quality documents, has low operating costs and prints pages quickly. It is the best black-and-white printer we reviewed and one of the top wireless laser printers on our lineup overall.

In addition to printing, the MFC-L6700DW scans, faxes and copies. While its multifunction design makes it bulky, the machine is about the same size as models with similar specifications. It weighs 40.5 pounds, which is heavy for a printer but still light enough that you can move it if needed.

You use a 4.85-inch color touchscreen to navigate menus and settings on this device. The MFC-L6700DW also has a small keypad to enhance navigation.

While this wireless laser printer doesn’t produce the most pristine prints, they are far from low quality. During our tests, it produced text documents that were readable and clear, but we did find several spots of unwanted ink. When we printed large blocks of color, it used the typical halftone patterns, but we found shaded areas, noticeable banding and other inconsistencies. Additionally, when we copied documents, we found even more banding issues.

This wireless laser printer has exceptional printing speeds. During our tests, it printed an average of 27 pages per minute, which is much faster than any wireless laser color printer; it's even better than our top pick, the HP Laserjet Pro MFP-M477fdw.

Since the MFC-L6700DW only uses one color of toner and Brother’s cartridges have high page yields, it has a very low per-page printing cost. A standard toner cartridge yields approximately 3,000 pages and costs $79.99, so you pay approximately $0.03 per page.

Brother’s high-capacity toner cartridges yield approximately 8,000 pages but at the much higher price of $129.99. Still, it brings the average cost down to $0.02 per page, so you save money in the long run.

This model can handle both large and small printing jobs. It has a high duty cycle of 100,000 pages, so you can print up to 3,000 pages per day without damaging the machine. However, Brother recommends only printing 5,000 pages in a one-month period for optimum performance.

The machine’s primary paper tray holds 520 pages, which is significantly larger than the traditional 250-sheet trays on most printers. Additionally, it has a second input tray that holds 50 more sheets, and the built-in document feeder for scanning and faxing holds 70 pages. You shouldn’t need to refill the trays often.

The Brother MFC-L6700DW has an extensive selection of wireless features. You can connect via Ethernet and Wi-Fi. It also has Wi-Fi Direct, which allows it to connect to mobile devices without going through a router.

This printer is compatible with Apple AirPrint, Google Cloud Print and Mopria mobile printing apps. You can also use the Brother iPrint & Scan app, which allows you to scan to your mobile device’s online storage and preview documents for printing. You can also use the app to manage the printer’s settings and monitor its ink levels.

Unfortunately, this wireless laser printer does not have near-field communication (NFC) technology. Printers with this feature can connect to NFC-compatible devices with just a tap.

The Brother MFC-L6700DW is covered under a one-year warranty. You can contact company representatives via email, telephone and live chat. If you would rather look for solutions on your own, you can access user manuals, troubleshooting guides and FAQs on Brother’s website.

The Brother MFC-L6700DW only prints in black-and-white, but it has workable print quality, a large duty cycle and fast printing speeds. Its wireless capabilities are extensive, and it uses affordable toner. Overall, the Brother MFC-L6700DW is one of the best wireless laser printers available and the best monochrome multifunction printer in our review.
