Let's Find The Right Document Scanners Service For You

Pros / Its automatic text recognition support helps with document processing.

Cons / The scanner has a middling page scan rate.

Verdict / The HP Scanjet is missing some high-end features, and its scanning performance isn’t as strong as that of higher-ranked machines, but it’s still a good value for small business users.

The HP Scanjet Pro 3000 s2 is a reliable document scanner that has more scanning choices than most of the units we reviewed. The upgraded version of the 3000 model, the 3000 s2, comes with software that includes a searchable PDF scanning option, and it lets you send electronic files to cloud or desktop storage.

The HP Scanjet Pro 3000 s2 can scan documents as many file types, including searchable PDFs, image-only PDFs, JPEGs, single- or multi-page TIFFs, Microsoft Word DOCX files, text files, and BMP image files. It even works well with photos. The scanner also has custom destinations, which alongside your choice of file type, give you almost unlimited scanning options. You can send each document type to a different folder on your computer, or you can send them to a cloud storage location such as Google Drive or SharePoint. You can also customize a location for other destinations like Evernote.

As it scans your documents, this machine electronically straightens them and removes blank pages. Scanning and saving documents with the Windows- and Mac-compatible HP Scanjet Pro 3000 s2 is as simple as loading up to 50 sheets of paper into the automatic document feeder (ADF).

The documents in each scan job can be mixed in size, as the machine detects the paper size and scans accordingly. The unit accommodates paper from business-card size on the low end up to rolls that are 34 inches long. Plastic credit cards and laminated ID cards can be loaded as a group in the ADF and scanned as well. In addition, if you have a stack of business cards, you have the option to scan and send them directly to a contact database.

The Scanjet Pro has a middling listed scan rate of 20 pages per minute, which is a little slower than the best document scanners we reviewed. In addition, this HP doesn’t have networking support, which can make it a tough fit for businesses with multiple employees.

While the manufacturer does not offer live chat for support issues, our emails and phone calls were answered by well-informed agents in a prompt and courteous fashion. The Scanjet Pro comes with a one-year warranty and instructions, datasheets and specifications that, although not abundant, are all written clearly.
