MartinLogan, an award-winning company long known for its first-rate electrostatic speakers, is the power behind the Passage, a versatile and great sounding in-wall speaker. The Passage is one of the firm's many triumphs. This speaker, with its two aluminum-cone woofers and excellent tweeter, provides clean sound with a solid foundation of deep bass.
The ability of the human ear to distinguish sounds can vary quite a bit from one person to the other. However, most individuals can hear a range of audio frequencies that start at 20Hz and extends to 20kHz. The speaker's range does not exactly match the 20Hz to 20kHz spectrum of human hearing, but it does offer frequency responses that are quite good. The lowest frequency response is 45Hz, and it reaches 20kHz for the highest frequency response. The sensitivity of the speaker is 91 decibels and the nominal impedance is 6 ohms.
You get some powerful volume with the Passage, since its minimum amplifier power starts at 20 watts and goes up to a resounding 300 watts for the maximum amplifier power.
The MartinLogan Passage is equipped with two 6.5-inch woofers, providing for some solid bass sound. There is one rectangular tweeter, which is unlike the round tweeters in most of the well-known speaker brands. This tweeter measures 1.5 inches by 2.25 inches. The crossover frequency is 2,200Hz.
The fabric cover for this in-wall is appealing without any embellishment, and it would look good installed as is. Unlike most covers for in-wall speakers, which are invariably white, this device offers cloth covers in three colors: white, silver or black. However, you are not stuck with these three hues if they don't look quite right with the walls in your house. The device is paintable and you can make it match quite closely with the color of your wall so that it does not mar the wall's appearance or detract from your decor.
This is one of the larger wall speaker systems we reviewed. The Passage stands 24.5 inches high, is 8.9 inches wide, has a depth of 4.9 inches and weighs in at a fairly hefty 16 pounds. Despite the somewhat larger size, the company's website promises that it offers "quick, trouble-free installation." The user manual notes that this device can be placed in a wall cavity either horizontally or vertically, depending on your home and your walls. The manual also offers advice on how to situate the speaker so that you get the best results, depending on where listeners generally gather in a particular room.

The useful and well-designed website offers downloadable manuals as well as a frequently asked questions section. For help and support, MartinLogan fills the bill nicely.
This in-wall speaker is a solid value because it offers great sound quality and good help and support options. The MartinLogan Passage comes from a well-regarded company, and it's quality only serves to verify the manufacturer's reputation.
