Cirrus Plus HD Review

PROS / The Cirrus Plus can travel up to 5 mph.

CONS / The turning radius isn't as tight as other electric wheelchairs.

VERDICT / The Drive Medical Cirrus Plus is one of the best options if you need a wheelchair that is easy to transport yet still provides plenty of power to get around indoors and outdoors.

The Medical Drive Cirrus Plus is a folding electric wheelchair. This product is not as bulky and large as many motorized wheelchairs, making it easy to transport and store. Additionally, the smaller size makes it ideal for riding around indoors. Even though this product is more lightweight than other wheelchairs, it is still powerful. It can travel at a top speed of 5 mph, offers an adequate battery life and has a weight capacity of 300 pounds.

Maneuverability

This wheelchair is designed for both indoor and outdoor use. It has the ability to travel up to 5 mph, making it one of the fastest electric wheelchairs on our lineup. However, the speeds can be affected by the weight of the rider. This electric wheelchair has a decent battery life. It can travel up to 15 miles on a single battery charge, and while this isn’t longest battery life we saw, it still provides plenty of power to go long distances.

When you're outside, the product can climb grades at an incline of 6 degrees, which is average for electric wheelchairs. However, this wheelchair can clear high ground easily. Its maximum ground clearance is 4 inches. This is superb as many similar products can only clear ground up 2.6 inches. However, it has a relatively wide turning radius of 33 inches.

The drive wheels on this power-operated wheelchair are 12.5 inches and are flat-free. There are also 8-inch front caster wheels, which help maintain the chair's stability and keep it from tipping when you're getting in and out of the chair or if you're riding on rough or uneven ground.

Comfort & Design

The design of the Cirrus Plus is different than other wheelchairs we reviewed. The overall design is more like a manual wheelchair, and this product stands out with its folding capabilities. You can easily fold it in half, making it easy to transport or store. It is also much more lightweight than similar power-operated wheelchairs, weighing 146 pounds, but is still not the lightest model on our lineup.

The Cirrus Plus has many basic design features, including a seat belt, seat cushion, pouch and swinging footrests. You can also adjust the arms to meet your specific height requirements.

The seat features plenty of padding to ensure you are comfortable. The back rest is also padded. The Medical Drive Cirrus Plus has a maximum weight capacity of 300 pounds, similar to most products on our lineup.

Help & Support

The help and support options and warranty from Drive Medical met our full expectations. This product features a lifetime manufacturer warranty on its frame. Additionally, its electronic components and drive train are covered for 14 months, and the batteries are covered under a six-month manufacturer warranty. This is one of the best warranties of the electric wheelchairs we reviewed.

Furthermore, if questions or issues arise with this product, there are plenty of options to reach a support representative and have your questions or concerns addressed. You can communicate with a representative via email, telephone and live chat. You can also find user manuals available on the company website.

Summary

The Drive Medical Cirrus Plus offers many standout features, including the ability to reach speeds up to 5 mph, high ground clearance and a foldable design. It also offers most basic features you'd expect to see, including seat belts, an adequate battery life and seat padding. We are also greatly impressed with the product’s long warranty and outstanding customer support. It is an excellent option if you need an electric wheelchair that is easy to transport, lightweight and still provides plenty of power to help you get around.
