Rescue Alert is a medical monitoring service that developed its products in-house, and its entire monitoring center is in-house as well. For those new to the service, Rescue Alert offers a 30-day risk-free guarantee, so you can try the system first. Each monitoring center attendant who answers an alarm is emergency medical dispatcher certified. This certification entails the same training required for 911 operators. Rescue Alert also uses Language Line Services, an independent translation service that's been in business for more than 20 years. This service accommodates up to 150 languages.
Rescue Alert’s MXD medical alert system costs around $29 a month, which is about a dollar less than the average monthly cost for this type of service. You can pay by year or by the quarter, but this doesn’t lower the monthly cost as it does with other medical alert systems. This service also doesn’t have a premium package. However, you can make a one-time payment of about $850 to purchase the equipment outright and have the service for life – you wouldn’t have to make any other payments.
This medical alert service offers several base console options. The basic plan comes with the RA400 console, which has an operating range of about 600 feet. The range varies depending on the construction of your home and the materials in its walls. In our tests, however, it reached1,710 feet in our outdoor tests and 400 feet in our indoor tests, which gave it the second longest range in our tests, beaten only by Medical Guardian, which reached 2,000 feet outside and 450 feet inside.
This device has a backup battery life of 90 hours of backup battery – the longest-lasting backup batteries available among comparable alert systems. Most others, like LifeFone, last between 24 and 32 hours.
A wearable, waterproof pendant is also included with the service. You can wear the pendant as a necklace or bracelet, so it's always in your reach in case of a problem. Rescue Alert provides battery monitoring to make sure that the pendant battery always has enough power. Soft-touch buttons are also available for your pendant if you have trouble pressing the button because of disability or arthritic hands.
Rescue Alert offers automatic testing of its equipment. The equipment sends a test signal to the company periodically. This enables Rescue Alert to ensure the equipment is working properly. If the company doesn't receive a test signal in a 25-day period, Rescue Alert attempts to contact the customer three times. This not only ensures the integrity of the equipment, but it also makes sure you're in good health.
The company also offers RA Minders, a service in which response-center personnel call you with reminders to take your medication or to perform other general tasks. You can also get Med Ready, a medication dispenser that organizes medication and doses for 28 days. Another unique product Rescue Alert sells is a Line Grabber, which allows you to call for help even if another telephone extension in your home is off the hook.

Since 1981, Rescue Alert has provided a great medical monitoring system with well-trained personnel. The service offers many convenient additional accessories, such as RA Minders. It lacks the option of fire and carbon monoxide monitoring. However, its use of Language Line Services and EMD-certified personnel makes Rescue Alert a valuable service.
