The Honeywell HCM-350 review: Price

The Honeywell HCM-350’s RRP may be $115.95, but it’s pretty easy to find bargain prices for this model. It’s available on Honeywell’s own site for $69.95 and Amazon.com often have it reduced to a similar price. Its wide availability at a reduced price makes this a great value humidifier.

The Honeywell HCM-350 review: Design and features

  • Is an evaporative humidifier
  • Wick is quite large and allows water to evaporate efficiently
  • Uses ultraviolet light to kill any bacteria
Specifications

Dimensions (L x W x H): 18.6 x 10.4 x 13in

This cool mist humidifier can offer many benefits when your loved ones are suffering from colds, flu or allergies. It is a good humidifier for a baby or if you have other young children in the home. The cool mist it produces is ideal with children in the house because there is no hot steam nor any hot water that could potentially scald your youngsters if the unit is accidentally tipped over. However, the best humidifiers, like the Levoit LV600HH, still offer the option of warm mist if you want it, and you only get cool mist with this model.

Unlike an ultrasonic humidifier, which produces mist through a vibration process, this model is an evaporative humidifier. It operates by pushing air through a wick that sits in water. The wick is quite large and allows water to evaporate more efficiently than it would with smaller wicks. While this unit does not have a humidistat, it does have a self-regulating feature that adjusts its output automatically and gives you the maximum amount of humidity possible.

This humidifier is very quiet. On low or medium speed, it is practically silent. If you place it right next to your bed and put it on high speed, you may hear the sound of the fan running quietly. The white noise that this produces is still gentle enough that it may actually help you sleep more soundly.

Honeywell takes two steps to ensure that this humidifier only provides you with clean moisture. First, the HCM-350 uses ultraviolet light to kill any bacteria and viruses lurking in your water. Second, Honeywell treats the filter with an antimicrobial process to help prevent the growth of germs and fungus. Although you still have to clean your humidifier regularly and change the filters to maintain optimal performance, the filters are easy to replace, and good maintenance gives you peace of mind that you are not spreading the cold and flu bugs that may be circulating in your home's air.

The Honeywell HCM-350 review: Performance

  • Good humidifying performance
  • Room doesn't become over-humidified

TechGearLab found the Honeywell HCM-350 to have good humidifying performance, although not as powerful as the Levoit LV600HH. They did find that the benefit of the wick was that a room would not become over-humidified as water stops evaporating from it once the room is humidified enough.

The review found that the other big benefit of this humidifier was how easy it was to clean thanks to a large opening and dishwasher safe components.

The Honeywell HCM-350 review: User reviews

  • Easy to clean
  • Some found the filter need to be soaked regularly

Users really like how easy the Honeywell HCM-350 is to clean, especially with the dishwasher safe components. Those that struggled with ultrasonic humidifiers found the evaporative function of this humidifier to be a great fit for them. Some have mentioned the need for the filter to be soaked regularly and the replacement cost of the wick is a common complaint.

Some reviews mention that the HCM-350 does tend to be noisier than ultrasonic humidifiers as it relies on a fan to push water over the wick. Most liken it to low-level white noise.

Should you buy the The Honeywell HCM-350?

The Honeywell HCM-350 is an ultra-quiet humidifier that provides soothing and clean moisture through its safe and cool mist. Although it is slightly larger than humidifiers of similar space coverage and is missing some common features, it offers effective relief from the dry air in your home.

Buying replacement wicks can get pricey, but it’s a good option for anyone looking for a non-ultrasonic humidifier and even with the use of a fan, it’s quiet.

Overall, we think this is one of the best value humidifiers available. While it doesn’t have a humidistat, it does have a self-regulating feature so it will be able to suitably humidify a room without putting too much moisture into the air.
