The Lasko 5586 Digital Ceramic Tower Heater has everything you'd expect of the best space heater for smaller rooms. The digital display contains a programmable thermostat and allows you to set a timer for up to eight hours, so you can be sure you won't wake up in the middle of the night to a cold bedroom.

It also has thoughtful touches such as a built-in remote control storage area and an easy-carry handle. There's 1500 watts of power, which isn't as much as you'll get in the Dyson Pure Hot+Cool Link, but for a less expensive model, it's not bad.

Lasko 5586 Digital Ceramic Tower Heater: What you need to know

Designed for smaller rooms, the Lasko 5586 has an elongated heating element, widespread oscillation, and its self-regulating ceramic construction is known for durability. This digital ceramic tower heater is 29 inches tall and has two heat settings - high and low, and this can be controlled from the remote control which attaches to the tower heater itself when not in use.

A built-in digital thermostat allows you to set your desired temperature. Once the space heater reaches that temperature, the unit turns off. If the temperature drops below the set temperature, it turns on again. You can operate all its functions via the remote control. The remote also allows you to turn the heater on and off, as well as adjust the thermostat as you see fit. You can even adjust the timer, without leaving bed.

In terms of safety, we're happy that this space heater has an easy-carry handle, and it weighs only seven pounds. This makes it easy to transport, even if it's warm. This shouldn't be a concern, though, because the Lasko 5586 promises overheat protection and cool-touch housing. This means you should be able to leave it near curtains and furniture without worrying that it could scorch or heat your home unnecessarily.

The heater is protected by a three year manufacturer warranty, which is better than a lot of the heaters we reviewed such as the Pelonis NY1507-14A space heater. Help with troubleshooting or receiving service is available via email or telephone.

Should you buy the Lasko 5586 Digital Ceramic Tower Heater?

For small rooms, the Lasko 5586 Digital Ceramic Tower Heater will do a fine job. Its ceramic construction is durable and backed by a three year warranty, and there's a lot of thoughtful touches such as the easy-carry handle and lightweight construction to take advantage of. You'll usually pay a little more for digital space heaters with remote controls and thermostat settings, but the Lasko 5586 is well priced for what it delivers in reliability and additional features.
