Pros / It has a large 12-ounce water reservoir, so you won't have to refill as often.
Cons / It has no anti-drip, calcium or scale system, which can cause buildup and reduce the iron's life.
Verdict / It lacks some safety features and anti-buildup features, but this iron works decently.
The Black & Decker D2030 iron offers good ironing and steaming power as well as a large reservoir so you can iron efficiently. While it lacks some buildup-removing and safety features, it has many other convenient features that make removing wrinkles and steaming easy.
With 1,500 watts, the iron can tackle ironing or steaming most fabrics easily. It has 31 steam holes to assist you in removing wrinkles or vertically steaming. However, this is not a significant amount of steam holes, and others on our lineup have up to 10 times as many. If you do need to steam, you only have to wait up to seven seconds after a series of steam bursts for the steam to regenerate, which is quick. You can also adjust the steam power according to your needs.
The U-shaped soleplate can heat up to 160 degrees, and with its seven fabric and temperature settings, you should be able to find the right setting for whatever fabric you are working with. The soleplate is made of stainless steel and measures 9.25 inches long.
The swivel cord is 8 feet long, which one of the shortest on our lineup. It is also one of the biggest, measuring 6.3 x 4.9 x 11.5 inches, as well as the heaviest, at 2.94 pounds. Though it has a digital display, we were disappointed to see that it offers no more features than the standard fabric-temperature dials on most steam irons do.
The D2030 has a built-in water reservoir capacity of 12 ounces, which is quite large, meaning you won't have to bother with refills as often. The reservoir is transparent and easy to fill. The iron has an intuitive interface, and a tone sounds when the iron has reached the desired temperature. A handy self-cleaning function helps remove impurities from the inner soleplate area, which will extends the life of the product.
If you happen to leave the iron unattended in an upright position for 10 minutes, the device's built-in safety feature automatically turns it off. However, unlike most other irons on our lineup, this one doesn't seem to automatically shut off if it is tipped over or left face down. The iron's body, dials and buttons also stay cool to the touch while it's on.
The D2030 comes with a two-year warranty from Black & Decker, and it also has a digital copy of the owner manual on its website. You can contact its customer service through phone or email with questions or concerns.
