Design & Portability

The MAE50 isn't the lightest or smallest portable washing machine we reviewed, but it comes with a few design elements that make it easy to move around the house as needed. Its casters allow you to simply wheel it into the kitchen or bathroom to hook it up and start using it. It also has cabinet handles to help you carry it where you need it.

Weighing in at 68.3 pounds, this Midea washer is just under the average weight of the models we reviewed, so moving it around the house isn't a back-breaking experience. This portable washer is 36.3 inches tall, 20.3 inches wide and 20.7 inches deep, so you can store it in a closet when you're not using it.

Like all other portable washing machines we reviewed, the Midea MAE50 comes with an adapter that you attach to a threaded faucet in your kitchen or bathroom. This feature allows you to use the machine even if you don't have standard washer hookups in your house, which is normal for small apartments and older buildings. You can leave the adapter on the faucet at all times, as the washer comes with a quick-connect adapter that you use to attach the hose to the water source.

This Midea portable washer has a 1.6-cubic-foot washtub, which is about enough to fit one person's average load of laundry at a time. The machine can spin at up to 800 rpm, which means you can use it to pull more moisture out of your clothing before starting the drying process. This gives you a more efficient and shorter drying period. The machine replaces the agitator of traditional machines with a small pulsating disc that sits at the bottom of the washtub and spins your clothes to force water and detergent through them.

Unfortunately, the washer does not come with a noise reduction plate to install on the bottom. The plate that comes with this model is designed to prevent rats and other critters from crawling inside the machine. However, you can adjust the feet of the washer to prevent the machine from moving and causing a lot of noise.

Cycles & Wash Settings

This portable washing machine has six wash cycles and six water level settings, giving you several options when you wash your clothes. The heavy cycle is meant for sturdy fabrics, such as denim, and fully penetrates them with water and detergent, washing them thoroughly. The delicate cycle is designed to wash more fragile items without damaging them. You can also use the quick cycle to clean your clothes if time is of the essence. The spin-only feature pulls more moisture out of the fabrics, which reduces the time it takes for them to dry.

Help & Support

Midea offers a one-year warranty that protects you against manufacturer defects and the cost of labor it takes to fix the issue. This warranty is the industry standard, so you won't find a better warranty with another company. Although Midea does have a page for user manuals on its website, the page is blank. We couldn't find a digital copy of the maintenance guide, but a hard copy does come with the washer. Technically, the website includes a FAQs section, but it only answers two questions and is mildly helpful at best. If you need to contact the company for any reason, phone support is your only option.

Summary

The Midea MAE50-S1102GPS is one of the best portable washing machines we evaluated because of its convenient design and many washing features. The unit is small enough to make moving it into your home and around the house a simple, painless process. It comes with casters and cabinet handles to make it even easier to transport where you need. The six different wash cycles and six water levels give you versatility and control over how you wash your clothes. Unfortunately, Midea's customer support is lacking, as you can only reach the company by phone. However, the washer itself is one of the best we evaluated, allowing you to effectively clean your clothes even if you live in an apartment or old building without standard washer hookups.
