Why you can trust Top Ten Reviews Our expert reviewers spend hours testing and comparing products and services so you can choose the best for you. Find out more about how we test.

The Milwaukee 0726-22 M28 is a serious drill that can take on serious jobs. Unlike some other models we reviewed, this cordless drill has a hammer action making it fantastic for drilling through tough masonry and steel, providing you use the correct bits.

The Milwaukee 0726-22 M28 is among the pricier cordless drills we’ve reviewed so if you’re looking for a budget option or just need a drill that can handle DIY jobs, check out the full guide to the best cordless drills.

Milwaukee 0726-22 M28: Features

The Milwaukee 0726-22 M28 is a heavy-duty hammer drill that means business. It has a half-inch chuck and two speeds. Some premium drills offer three speeds so that you can have even more control when you’re drilling, if that’s something you need, check out our DeWalt DCD991P2 review

The Milwaukee also has twenty-four clutch settings for precision jobs, which is the number you should expect from premium drills. There’s an LED light to help you see what you’re doing and you can either opt to buy this drill complete with two batteries or simply buy the tool alone.

While you do pay over $400 for the drill complete with two batteries, you can expect an impressive five-year warranty for added reassurance. Crucially, for some consumers, it also has a hammer mode, but all of this comes at a price, and not just fiscally; the Milwaukee 0726-22 M28 weighs in at 6.2 lbs.

For many consumers that’s too much so, to be clear from the off, the Milwaukee 0726-22 M28 has been designed and manufactured for a particular segment of the market: this is for the toughest jobs, not your common or garden DIY efforts.

On the downside, the Milwaukee 0726-22 M28 doesn’t have anywhere to store a second bit which, on a machine such as this, is almost bizarre, but it does have a battery charge indicator so you can admire the impressive Milwaukee 0726-22 M28 run-time. Incidentally, the Lithium-Ion battery pack takes just over an hour to charge but if left dormant for long periods in between jobs, might benefit from a top-up.

Milwaukee 0726-22 M28: Performance

The Milwaukee features a brick-smashing 28 volts that powers a brushless motor capable of 750 in-lbs of torque with a drill speed of 1800 RPM. However, the Kobalt KDD 1424A-03 offers a drill speed of 2000 RPM but it isn’t a hammer drill so this still might be your best bet.

Last, and by no means least, the Milwaukee 0726-22 M28 has a hammer mode. When equipped with a masonry bit, the hammer mode is ideal for drilling into stone, concrete, brick or mortar; the drill rotates like a normal but has a forward/backward hammering-type action, the Milwaukee 0726-22 M28 has a hammer speed capable of 28800 impacts per minute, that’s 480 whacks a second.

The Milwaukee 0726-22 M28 just gets on with the job, it’s not flustered with potential technological problems and it has a quality build with carbide-lined chucks, for example, which are better equipped to deal with all that still-very-relevant power.

Milwaukee 0726-22 M28: User reviews

The Milwaukee 0726-22 M28 cordless drill has an average rating of 4.8 out of five stars on Home Depot. Customers praise it for its long run-time and the amount of power it offers. One user stated that this drill ‘will out perform any 20 volt drill’. Downsides to this drill include its weight and how bulky it is, some users also mentioned that it’s a shame this drill doesn’t have a bit holder.

Should you buy the Milwaukee 0726-22 M28?

The Milwaukee 0726-22 M28 is the ultimate drilling powerhouse. If you need to tackle jobs that need power, then this is the best cordless drill for you. The three speed settings are a bonus and you’re also getting a long five-year warranty to protect your purchase. This drill is fairly heavy though and it’s certainly not cheap, so if you just want something to take on small DIY jobs, then you might be better off with a different model.
