The Citi® Platinum Select®/AAdvantage® Visa Signature® Card isn’t the absolute best air miles credit card out there, but this credit card does provide you with priority boarding and other significant travel benefits. This is in addition to the miles you receive for using the card.

Travel Benefits

If you use your card to purchase your American Airlines flight, you can check your first bag for free; however, some restrictions may apply. You can also take advantage of priority boarding when you use your card to purchase your flight.

We’re disappointed that the miles you earn with this card can expire, but Citi does give you the option to reactivate some miles for a fee if they do expire before you can use them.

Key Features

In addition to earning miles with this card on every purchase you make, this Citi air miles card includes many features you would find on just about any credit card, but it does offer a few features that are specifically nice for people who travel often. For instance, if you use your card to purchase your travel fares, you will automatically be covered with its travel and emergency assistance, lost luggage coverage and auto rental insurance to name a few.

This frequent flyer air miles credit card offers a nice low annual percentage rate, but it doesn’t offer new card members any introductory rate. For purchases, you can expect a 13.99%-21.99% Variable APR, which is also the same for any balance transfers you make. If you use this card to make any cash advances, your APR will be 25.24% Variable. Additionally, this card also has a 29.99% Variable penalty APR attached to it.

Fees & Penalties

We’re happy to see that Citi offers a $0 annual fee for the first year with this card. Following the first year, you can expect an annual fee of $95. Aside from that, the other fees attached to this air miles credit card are right along the industry standard. For instance, if you plan to use this card while traveling abroad, you will see a 3% fee on all those transactions. Furthermore, you will be charged a $10 minimum or 3% fee for cash advances and a $5 minimum or 3% on any balance transfer transactions.

Member Support

You can contact Citi only by phone for member support with this air miles card. There are a number of frequently asked questions on the Citi website. Although, we were disappointed that email and live chat are not member support options as well.

The Citi® Platinum Select®/AAdvantage® Visa Signature® Card includes a handful of travel benefits that make traveling a bit more luxurious. You can enjoy priority boarding and get settled before the majority of the passengers take their seats on the plane. Additionally, this frequent flyer miles card boasts a nice low APR, which will make earning miles even easier.
