I would like to know if there is an antivirus program that will scan automatically on sybase DB's. Our server allows staff to upload word doc's into the DB,,, with the increase of virus's occuring on out windows PC's,,, i would like to add protection to the doc's in the DB.Any ideas?
Unfortunately, you can't add protection to the documents, only the
transport system and antivirus software on the sending and receiving
servers and PCs.
I assume that this server is on the
local LAN to do the uploads from the internet. If Symantec, McAffee or
any of the good antivirus software is residing on the server the
database is on it should catch anything that is fed to it. We use
Symantec on our servers here. 12 Comm uses Symantec on the Exchange
servers as well as the firewall servers. As long as the systems that
are sending the files are well protected with antivirus software there
shouldn't be a threat. However, y'all absolutely must stay on top of the
updates sent by the antivirus software company. You also have to stay
on top of any and all security updates from Microsoft.
Find software that will run on all of you systems that checks to see if ANYone
who logs on to your network is completely up to date with all security
patches. And if they're not, it uploads them on to their systems before
they are allowed to proceed, or have access to your local LAN.
