Mr. Darin,

In this day and age, I can understand the need for protection from as you would put it "risky sites". Especially if you have little ones. Now, truth be told. I don't think there will be any software that can offer you 100% protection. Mainly because different individuals will try to bypass any protection software. Their perniciousness makes me want to vomit. But, that's the world we live in. Now, I can share with you my experience with Net Nanny. It has helped me protect my family from those pervasive sites/stories/images that corrupt so much of what we know as the world wide web. With that being said, Net Nanny is a product that I can recommend. Based on my experience. Just remember:

“The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, the education, the money, than circumstances, than failure, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company... a church... a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so it is with you... we are in charge of our Attitudes.”

Charles R. Swindoll.

That sums up my battle against the pervasive material that corrodes our daily lives.

Yours Truly,

Casanova J

I would give "Safe Eyes 2009" a try. It's a great program that will help with avoiding those "risky sites" that are on the internet.

I have tried many different filters and the best one I have found is Windows Live Onecare. I have my internet through Qwest and it is free. Also it is VERY easy to install and maintain. You are able to set times your children are able to be on the computer, what ratings for games they are able to play etc. It does have a free trial you can use to try it out.

Net Nanny is a good product to do this. It allows you to configure exactly what you want to block.

I have to echo Dan's response. NetNanny lets you setup profiles with different restrictions. Easier to maintain and it does an excellent job of logging activities. If a site is attempted to be accessed by the user, and it's prohibited, it will report the site, the time, the date, and the amount of attempts to load the site. They do a great job of stepping up to the plate due to their several years in the Internet Filtering business.

we have BeSecure (used to be BeSafe) Online.  We really like it.  There is a version with NO password override but we have the one that we can add sites we like to use such as Wikipedia.  We have had it several years and really don't have any complaints.  They even screen banner ads from people like True that often have sexy overtones.  It runs about $50 a year, I think.
