Capella University is regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. It also was the first online university to become a charter participant of the Academic Quality Improvement Program, which requires an ongoing annual review to assure the quality of its programs.

The tuition at this online school varies. The average bachelor's degree takes 120 credits and costs between $35,000 and $40,000. If you qualify, you can reduce the tuition costs for your online degree through a variety of financial aid packages. These include in-school scholarships for new and continuing students, scholarships from other organizations, employee discounts, federal financial aid, different student loan programs, and benefits for veterans, members of the military and their spouses. You also might save money by transferring credits from another college if you have gone to school elsewhere. You also can gain benefits through the school's Prior Learning Assessment Process, which gives you academic credit for things you have already mastered.

In addition, Capella has introduced FlexPath, its own competency-based arrangement that lets you work at your own pace without weekly due dates or discussions. You can take as many courses as you want each quarter if you participate in this effort. For now, the FlexPath approach is available only to students in the fields of business, information technology and psychology.

Capella University is a completely online learning program. The graduate programs have a residency requirement, which you can meet by attending national colloquiums. These colloquiums are offered throughout the year in cities across the country and give you some face-to-face contact and interaction with peers, along with seminars and access to faculty and staff. As a student, you also have access to a large virtual library, complete with research databases, and to physical books through an interlibrary loan program.
