PROS / Costco.com has a large selection of bulk products and unusual items.
CONS / The site is hard to navigate.
VERDICT / Those looking for a quick purchase won't like Costco.com, but it is great for bulk item savings.
Costco.com is the online version of the buy-in-bulk warehouses bargain hunters love. As an online bargain shopping site, it has many great features, but there are some quirks that may send you clicking elsewhere. Keep in mind that just like your local retail warehouse, you need a membership to purchase anything online at Costco.com.
Costco’s website is a bit cramped and the font is tiny. On the up-side, the site does feature detailed product descriptions, multiple photos of items and product reviews to help you make the best selection possible.
The site has a large selection of everyday items and some that are a little more…unusual. One of the strange things about Costco’s store selection is that it doesn’t offer clothing or shoes, but it does offer funeral supplies. What kind of funeral supplies, you might ask? Well, their selection of funeral items includes everything except the headstone. Costco sells caskets, pet urns, human urns, sympathy flowers and funeral keepsakes, all at a discount price.
Another item that you can only find at Costco.com is the travel section. You can purchase discounted cruise packages, hotel reservations, plane tickets and more from this area. It’s kind of like having a travel agent booth between the pharmacy and candy isle of your favorite grocery store.
Need insurance or a 401k? Look no further than the Service tab on the Costco.com website. This section also features event tickets, roadside assistance, business payroll help and more all at discounted rates for their members. You can’t get these options at any other online bargain store.
Costco.com also has a photo developing lab and an online pharmacy. By ordering your prints through the online photo store, you can pick up your photos at your local Costco in about an hour.
Bargains and Discounts
Costco.com doesn’t have sales or special discounts. With a membership, the site gives you items in bulk at a lower price per unit than if you bought the items individually. This can be a downer for sales junkies that love the rush of finding clearance items and daily deals on sites such as Amazon.com and Overstock.com.
Costco.com has one of the worst customer service areas of any of our top ten bargain shopping sites simply because it is so hard to navigate. Once you finally find the contact information, you can contact customer service by phone, mail or email.
Costco.com’s payment options aren’t as stringent as some sites. Costco.com takes credit cards, Bill Me Later and gift cards.
Costco.com is a great site for those who like buying items in bulk and for those that need to buy unusual items. Those that like clean, well organized bargain sites may want to look elsewhere.
