PROS / Hyatt Residence Club does not charge you a fee for banking your points to use next year.
CONS / Your real estate purchase of a timeshare has an expiration date.
VERDICT / Hyatt Residence Club has a number of resorts in beach, mountain, desert and country destinations for you to call your vacation home, but that time is limited and your timeshare will not be yours forever.
Hyatt Residence Club makes it easy for you to ensure you take your vacation every year with its timeshare program. You can buy into a resort in a number of destinations, including towns like Key West, Aspen and San Antonio, depending on availability. If you choose a home resort in a place you love – like the beach if you’re a sun worshipper, or the mountains if you’re a snow bunny – you can vacation there each year without paying extra fees. Hyatt’s travel club uses a point system, so you can use your points to stay at a resort within the company’s network or trade your time through Interval International to see the world at thousands of different resorts, but these do cost extra, and the point value for different resorts and during different times of the year may vary.
When you purchase from the best timeshare resorts, you can usually expect the deeded property to remain in your name in perpetuity, but with Hyatt, it won’t. You can hand it down to your children or grandchildren, or will it to friends or other loved ones, but after 88 years, it returns to Hyatt.
There are very few fees, and maintenance costs are included in the club dues. If you cannot use all of your points, you have the option of banking them for the following year, and there is no fee for this, which is common for some other clubs on our list. As with any vacation club, Hyatt Residence Club may raise the cost of dues or fees, or raise the point cost of a block of time or units in a particular resort. If you cancel your reservation, you will be charged a cancellation fee. As a Hyatt Residence Club member, you are also enrolled in the Hyatt Gold Passport program, which allows you to earn points that you can use at Hyatt hotels, spas, restaurants and more.
The best vacation clubs will give you the information you need to make an informed decision on whether you want to invest. Hyatt Residence Club did not disclose all of the details of its program, but the sales and customer service staff we contacted were very helpful in answering all of the questions they could. We found a handful of complaints, but Hyatt either resolved the issues or attempted to do so.
As a member of Hyatt Residence Club, you can enjoy the Hyatt brand of resorts and hotels that are located around the world. You have even more options with your membership to Interval International, the timeshare exchange group. Although you won’t be able to keep your portion of property forever, and while Hyatt Residence Club isn’t the very best timeshare company we reviewed, it is a good choice if you’re in the market for a vacation club membership.
