Photography is an art that is meant to be shared with family and friends. Mpix digital photo printing service can help you do just that, with a variety of photo gifts, including photo books for the grandparents, calendars for the home, prints for wedding announcements and so much more.
Before you can upload any images to Mpix, you must sign up to become a member. From here, you have full access to all the features and tools this digital photo printing service offers. To upload photos, Mpix accesses every file folder on your computer that contains pictures. You are able to sort through these files and select the images individually or copy all and drop them to the appropriate upload box. Once you have selected and uploaded your image files, this photo printing service transitions you to the "buy prints" page. If you would rather use your image for specialty products, press products or merchandise, however; simply click those specific tabs, which are located at the top of the page. If you need to edit your photos, do so before you upload them to this digital photo printing service, as Mpix has a disappointing lack of photo editing options: You are only able to rotate the image and crop it.
During our testing, we upload some photos that we had collected from Facebook. Mpix slapped a yellow exclamation mark on the photos, letting us know that the resolution of these images were too low. We appreciate that this digital photo printing service warned us of a problem before we used the images and paid for products that were not acceptable.
Uploading your images into a photo album is easy and you can complete the task in a few steps. The rest of the process is a bit more difficult and tedious, and the final product is a bit underwhelming. Take the creation of the photo book, for example. One of the first steps in creating a photo book is to choose a theme, but there is only one theme to choose from. The customization choices are a bit mundane, but you are able to resize, rotate and crop the photo, as well as make the photo less opaque. To resize the image, you use your curser to zoom in or out, but then to move the image, you need to click out of that option and back to the move function. We are sure that many may find this process simple and even enjoyable, but we found it convoluted and, after creating 20 plus pages, downright annoying.
This digital photo printing site is disappointing as a whole, but the help and support options are its saving grace. For basic help, you can submit a support form online or email customer service directly. To better understand this site's features and photo printing tools, you can view over 20 video tutorials. To learn what's new with Mpix, you can visit the community and access the blog and forum. The blog features sale events, new products and photography news.
Mpix is a mixed bag of great features and a disappointing lack of functionality. We did enjoy the unusual photo gifts that you can create, but missed the basic editing tools found in other digital photo printing services.
