Interserver's home page is basic, but its selected shared hosting plans are not. Other than the Standard plan, Interserver also has specific hosting for Windows and Wordpress. For this comparison, we focused on the Standard plan. For its low price, there is little that this web hosting service doesn't offer.
Signing up for an account at Interserver had a few extra steps in place compared to one-step sign ups. Upon payment, you input your email. Once the payment is approved, Interserver sends a code that will then allow you to create a login. The hosting account and domain were not approved at the same time, which lengthens the timeframe to get started. The approval process took some time, which may turn off those who want immediate access to domain approval and a host to get their site live.
The package of the shared Standard plan makes it one of the best shared hosting experiences. It offers unlimited domains, subdomains, parked domains, disk space, email accounts and MySQL databases. This selection alone makes Interserver a major contender. It also guarantees that if your site doesn't maintain at least 99.9 percent uptime, this service will credit up to 50 percent of your monthly cost.
We had a largely positive experience with the amount of features that this web hosting company provides for support. We put its 24/7 phone support to the test several times and were pleased that we were able to reach not only sales but support as well, even if it did take longer after business hours. The live chat is a quick process. This varies by time of day and the reps' current queue, but the average wait time was just under four minutes, with slightly over a minute wait time for each response. There aren't video tutorials on the site, but you can find answers to your questions with the help of FAQs and a community forum.
The security for Interserver's shared website hosting isn't as robust as with some other services. This plan doesn't offer a daily virus scan or daily backups. However, the automatic weekly backups are generally enough for the common domain owner.
Interserver is a solid service that is one of the best web hosting applications. It provides enough room in a well-priced plan to run multiple websites at once. As long as traffic doesn't overflow the servers, the disk space will be enough to keep each site's uptime nearly perfect. It doesn't have the highest immediate usability, but it shouldn't be enough to keep a potential site owner from trying it out.
