IPOWER's web hosting service runs all of its servers on wind power, so you can feel good about supporting the environment. The pricing is good, not especially cheap, but definitely not overpriced either. We are less impressed by the user interface and customer service. Occasional bug encounters may interrupt your workflow, and the support team is not responsive enough to compensate.
This is just one of the many hosts owned by Endurance International Group; however, they're not all created equal. In fact, of the sister companies, IPOWER offers the least amount of usability for the package you're buying. There is a solid amount of flexibility if you ever want to upgrade, but the Starter plan only allows for one domain, subdomain, email account and MySQL database. That minimalism, combined with only 5GB disk space, makes it the provider with the lowest number of hosting tools. Also, while other web hosts typically provide you with a free domain when you sign up for monthly hosting service, IPOWER charges for the domain, the cost of which is due at signup.
After signing up online, we were told that our account was canceled by specialists. The representatives were helpful in getting the account back online, but the average wait time for each chat session was 23 minutes. The live chat is a bit impersonal and less helpful than those of competitors. The support representatives lacked the knowledge to answer all of our questions quickly and accurately. All in all, they seemed more eager to have our business than to provide us with information.
This service is also lacking because it does not provide additional help and support features to its clients, such as video tutorials and user forums. These tools are useful for answering questions when you have difficulty navigating your domain hosting.
IPOWER offers decent security with Secure Shell, or SFTP, file transfer. This ensures that outbound data goes to the right place, which helps to protect your business from leaking data into nefarious hands. If you want to legitimize your site with an SSL certificate, however, expect to pay a hefty yearly fee.
Although IPOWER has developed a bad rap throughout the internet, the service package is good. Unfortunately, overeager and under-helpful customer service, combined with frequent glitch encounters, don't make a good impression overall. Sadly, the only thing that makes this service unique is the lack of hosting features.
