PROS / This service offers unlimited email accounts, bandwidth and disk space under its basic hosting package.
CONS / This web host does not offer any parked domains.
VERDICT / Midphase proves to be a good web host, providing the features necessary to build, launch and maintain a successful website.
Midphase is a small business web hosting provider that boasts cheap hosting. For the most part, the service lives up to its claim. It is one of the cheapest web hosts on our lineup, but the cheaper plans are also extremely limited in the number of domains and subdomains you can host, as well as allowing only one MySQL database. Learning to use the platform may require some extra time and effort if you’re new to web hosting.
Midphase provides a majority of the features we looked for in web hosting services. For starters, the web hosting service backs up your website daily as part of its service, and can restore your site to its last saved position should you fall victim to hacking, a virus or a simple glitch. It keeps access logs so that you can go in and find the origin of any problems, too. These are common features, but some services charge for them.
Admins can use the cPanel control panel for streamlined site management. It has a secure shell (SSH) so you can safely access other computers through the program, a nice feature if you need to access a customer’s or coworker’s computer for IT.
This web hosting company does not store its data on solid state drives. These are the most modern storage capabilities and ensure a faster and more secure website. If you need a website with fast download and upload times, such as if you have videos or downloadable products, then look for web hosts with SSD storage.
This web host does have a shared secure socket layer SSL. This ensures commerce-level encryption of transactions so that you can accept online payments safely.
Control Panel Tools
One noteworthy feature Midphase offers is a comprehensive site builder tool. Given how much website design and web hosting overlap, being able to manage both aspects of your site under a single, central portal is both convenient and efficient. If you prefer WordPress, this service can host it. The company also offers all the tools necessary to create and host an eCommerce website. It supports many major shopping cart applications, including CubeCart, AgoraCart and PayPal.
You can also create custom 404 pages. These can add personality to a site and help with branding, even when an internal link goes bad.
It’s not the most user-friendly of the services we tested. This website hosting company does not offer a free domain name or advertising credits, like most hosting services do.
Help & Support
The technical support options provided by Midphase are comprehensive and highly useful. Particularly beneficial is the help documentation that can be accessed directly from the control panel. By simply clicking on the documentation link, you are forwarded to the documentation section where you can browse help topics or search for specific information by keyword. There’s also a searchable knowledgebase and video tutorials.
The web hosting company does not provide user forums, where users can discuss or post concerns about using the platform. However, you can reach a support representative 24/7/365 via email ticketing or live chat. The representatives on the live chat answered our concerns fairly quick each time we spoke with them.
With its versatile hosting options and range of features, Midphase is an inexpensive solution for anyone looking to launch a professional website. While it lacks a few features, such drawbacks aren’t likely to be a deal breaker for most prospective users. The biggest drawbacks are the limits in domains unless you take the maximum plan. Whether you’re just starting out with your first site or you’ve had ample experience in site design and hosting, Midphase is a website hosting service we recommend.
