StartLogic is a domain hosting service that boasts robust functionality and three comprehensive and affordable hosting packages. The service has the hosting features you need in a provider, but it lags far behind the competition in terms of ease of use. In fact, its control panel is one of the most cumbersome we tested.
The company’s three different hosting packages collectively appeal to a wide range of users; they start at different price points and include varying levels of functionality. We tested the Express plan, which includes 5GB of disk space, five email accounts and 600GB of monthly bandwidth. The service’s other hosting packages step up the level of service, offering both unlimited disk space and bandwidth.
StartLogic is owned by a company that manages several other web hosts in our lineup. Creating an account with this sister company was an issue. It requires a copy of your license in order to sign up, an annoyance considering you only pay a few dollars per month for the service. Once we opened an account, we had to wait extra time to own the domain.
The area StartLogic really fails to impress is its user-friendliness. The majority of the service’s usability issues stem from its control panel. The hosting provider uses vDeck, a control panel that is not well known in the web hosting space and is notably more complex and cumbersome to use than competing applications.
Fortunately, StartLogic provides decent help and support options. If you are new to web hosting and managing a website, you are likely to have many questions about this control panel. Its support center contains a knowledgebase, tutorials and a user guide that shows you step-by-step how to navigate and use your account.
The web hosting service also provides a 24/7 support team available via telephone, email or live chat. There was often a long wait during regular business hours to speak with a customer service rep; however, this seems to be the case with most web hosting services and is understandable since StartLogic's live chat services are shared with a handful of other web hosting services.
StartLogic is at the tail end of our hosting lineup because signup was overly complicated and the control panel requires a learning curve. While the Express plan does have the basic features needed to help you create a website, StartLogic is in dire need of an overhaul when it comes to ease of use. The web hosting service would give our top-rated hosting providers a run for their money with a control panel more focused on intuitiveness and usability.
