WebHostingPad Review

PROS / The customer support staff is very helpful and communicative.

CONS / Many features that are standard elsewhere cost you more with WebHostingPad.

VERDICT / WebHostingPad is a good choice for bloggers and small business owners who are looking for a simple, bare bones web hosting package.

Editor's Note: This review has been removed from our side-by-side comparison because it no longer ranks as a top 10 product. The original review is below, but check out our current top 10 about Web Hosting services.

WebHostingPad offers two different hosting plans that are good options for individuals and small businesses. The features are plentiful and customer support is very helpful, and that’s why the company made it onto our list as one of the best web hosting services available. However, advanced features are at a premium, which is why it doesn’t earn a top spot in our lineup.

Shared Hosting Package

As with most web hosting services, WebHostingPad offers unlimited bandwidth, disk space, MySQL databases and email accounts, but you should always interpret “unlimited” with caution. Unlimited use applies to most personal websites, but if your website has an extreme amount of traffic, the web host may ask you to reduce resources or upgrade to a Virtual Private Server (VPS). Its 99.9 percent uptime guarantee applies only to situations WebHostingPad can control, so any external issues or connection problems that aren’t on the web host’s end don’t apply.

Beyond the extremely low introductory monthly price, there are a few conditions. In order to lock in the low price, you have to agree to at least three years of service, otherwise you have to pay the regular monthly fee. There are several other perks if you sign up, including free marketing credits through Google, Yahoo, Bing and Facebook.

WebHostingPad offers an unconditional 30-day money back guarantee, which means if you aren’t satisfied with the service you receive in the 30-day period, you can get a full refund. However, if you secured a free domain name through the web host and cancel within a year, you have to pay the registration fee.

Although help and support are available by phone, email and chat 24/7, priority support is only an option if you choose to upgrade from the Power Plan to the Power Plan Plus. When we tested its live chat option for both sales and support, we got “Gary” four times in a row, and he confirmed that he handles both. However, each time we needed assistance, the support staff members went out of their way to help. For example, we asked a how-to question that was answered quickly by an agent, who also followed up with a link to instructions.

Control Panel Tools

Regardless of whether you use WordPress, Joomla, Drupal or other technology, WebHostingPad likely supports it. If you’re starting from scratch, you have the ability to design and build your website from the ground up using the company’s free site creation software. You also have complete control over your website through the standard cPanel control panel, which is very user-friendly. If you do have trouble with it, you can watch the video tutorials to learn how to manage your site. You can also use the cPanel in your choice of more than a dozen different languages in addition to English.

It was initially difficult to figure out where to log in to cPanel, but we went back to our introductory email from the web host and found several helpful links there, including a direct link to the cPanel login screen.

Help & Support

WebHostingPad provides eCommerce solutions for shared hosting customers, including shared SSL and shopping carts. Keep in mind, that shared SSL certificates do not display your website’s name, so it could be confusing for customers. It is still be secure for purchases, though.

The basic plan doesn’t include security options like free backup, site restorations or spam firewall. Still, you can opt-in for those features – for a price.

If you’re simply looking for a server to host your blog, personal or business website, you can do well with WebHostingPad, one of what we consider the top hosting companies. However, it costs you more if you want the extras that seem to come standard with most of the other higher ranked web hosts on our list.
