Pros / It’s very easy to back up data.

Cons / The restore speed was unimpressive.

Verdict / EaseUS Todo Backup’s Home version is designed for the everyday user, the novice and the advanced user. This is evident in its combination of advanced features and a well-designed interface.

EaseUS is a software developer with the slogan make your life easy. The company designs software to be reliable and easy to use for home users – and it’s clear that this is a priority. Todo Backup Home is one of the easiest data backup apps to use. The interface is simple and prioritizes the basic over the advanced features, which is important for most home users. In addition, the overall performance is generally very good, with only a few aspects ranking as average in our testing. For this reason, EaseUS Todo Backup Home earns the Top Ten Reviews Bronze Award for best data backup software.

For our comparison of data backup software, we tested each app on the same computer, using the same data. In this way, the results of our tests allowed for an apples-to-apples comparison of speed, CPU usage and compression rates. We also closely evaluated the backup and restore processes for ease of use. Data backup software should be easy to use for even the most novice users because anyone with a computer should be able to protect their data with a backup strategy.

Backup Performance

EaseUS Todo Backup Home received an A grade for ease of use during the backup phase. There are only four steps in the process, which leaves very little room for error. You choose the data you want to back up, its destination, and the compression and encryption settings, and then you’re ready to back up your data. In addition, the interface has a simple design that prioritizes the five backup options, and they are labeled with both text and symbols. It’s also very easy to navigate.

The backup speed was excellent in our tests, receiving an A-minus. The average speed after multiple tests was 1.49GB per minute, which is only 400MB per minute shy of the fastest speed in our review. If this app was used to back up a 1TB hard drive, it would complete the backup set in about 11.18 hours. In comparison, the fastest app in our tests would finish the same backup set just a half hour sooner. When you consider that the slowest software we reviewed would take about 64 hours to back up the same amount of data, a half hour is a very minor difference.

The program received a B-plus grade for CPU usage during the backup process. The average usage on our test computer was 10.18 percent, which is not a big resource footprint at all. However, it’s worth noting that our computer has a quad-core processor and 16GB of memory, so you can expect different results on your computer.

Todo Backup Home compressed our test data by an average of 3.81 percent, which was good enough for a B grade. It is still above average but not spectacular. The best compression rate in our tests was 9.47 percent, but most apps were below 1.5 percent. If you need to conserve storage space on the drive you’re backing up to, then compression abilities are important. That said, it’s also worth noting that files differ in how compressible they are, so your results may be different.

Restore Performance

EaseUS Todo Backup’s restore process received a B for ease of use. The process is very straightforward with just three to four steps. However, in one of the restore sets, the app failed to restore all of the data, which defeats the purpose of data backup software. Because of this, we graded it lower than the easiest products. We were eventually able to restore the full data set, but it took several tries before we were successful.

The restore speed and CPU usage were barely above average, receiving a C-plus and B-minus respectively. We recorded an average speed of 1.13GB per minute, which was twice as slow as the fastest restore speed, and the average CPU usage during the restore sets was 24.25 percent. Of course, both benchmarks aren’t as important as the backup benchmarks because you won’t be using the restore features very often, hopefully.

Advanced Features

EaseUS Todo Backup Home is loaded with advanced features like incremental and differential backup schemes, full-system backup, disk imaging, system migration, image splitting, and more. You can even back up to a cloud storage services like Google Drive.

You can protect your backed-up data with encryption. However, there is only one encryption option, which is a minor downside, and the app doesn’t list the level of encryption. The website suggests that it’s 256-bit encryption, which is very secure.

Help & Support

You can contact support through live chat and an email ticket system, which is available 24/7. EaseUS also provides a 30-day guarantee. If you don’t like the app, you can get a full refund. However, the service doesn’t have phone support, which is all too common with software developers.

EaseUS provides excellent support resources to help you master the software and minimize any learning curves you may experience. The website features a FAQs page, complete product manuals, a solution guide, user forum and tutorials.

EaseUS Todo Backup Home is one of the easiest data backup apps on the market. The interface is well designed and easy to navigate. In addition, the backup performance is great, with one of the fastest speeds, a low CPU usage rate and above-average compression. On the other end, the restore speed isn’t as impressive, but the process is still very easy. The app is also loaded with advanced features, so while it’s easy enough for a novice user, it’s functional enough for an advanced user too.
