Pros / We were able to recover most of the original file names with this software.

Cons / The video and music recovery capabilities are well below average.

Verdict / EaseUS Data Recovery struggles to recover all file types with a consistent success rate, but it is fairly easy to use.

EaseUS develops software with a focus on simple and intuitive interfaces. The Mac hard drive recovery software easily illustrates this focus, and it scored well in our tests. However, while it recovers photos and documents at a high rate, its success rate for videos and music is low, and so it falls below the best Mac hard drive recovery software in our review.

Our testing simulated two common scenarios – lost files and a reformatted drive. In each test, we analyzed how well the EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard recovered photos, documents, videos and music. Like most of the products in or review, it was the most successful when recovering photos. It rescued an average of 97 percent of the photos during the lost file tests and 93 percent of them during the reformatted drive tests. However, it’s worth noting that both of those scores are several points below the average. Even a single percent difference can be enormous when considering that 10GB is 1 percent of a 1TB hard drive.

The software’s success rate with documents was equally impressive. In the lost file tests, it recorded an average success rate of 94 percent. In the reformatted drive tests, the rate was 96 percent. Both rates are above average. However, for comparison, the best Mac recovery app in our review recovered documents at a rate of 100 and 99 percent for each test scenario, respectively.

The major downside to this app’s performance is the video and music recovery rates. In the tests we performed, it only rescued 42 percent of media in the lost files tests, and 41 percent in the reformatted drive tests. Additionally, as was the case with some other products, some of the returned video and music files were partially or wholly unplayable.

While the software was clearly designed to be as intuitive as possible, and for the most part it succeeds. We’ve seen some better, but the software was decently easy to use overall. It’s worth noting, too, that this is one of the few Mac recovery apps that recovered most of the original file names. This makes the post-recovery stage easy because you don’t have to sort through all of the files just to figure out what each of them are.

The program has some of the slowest scan and recover speeds for HDDs in our review, though the speeds for SSDs were some of the fastest on our lineup.

The EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard is easy enough for users of any skill level to use, and it has fast scan and recovery speeds if you need to recover data from a solid-state drive. It was only one of a few products we tested that actually recovered original file names. However, while its recovery success rates for photos and documents is good, its rates for media files is quite poor.
