FairStars Audio Converter is perhaps the most basic audio converter in our lineup. Its gray layout with four light blue conversion buttons above the input library and playback buttons across the bottom is the entire basis for the program. But the simple interface is deceptive; this MP3 converter has a decent number of audio conversion capabilities compared to the rest of our lineup.

You can use FairStars to convert an unlimited number of files at once, also called batch conversion. You can also hop into the Options tab on the interface to adjust audio file parameters such as bitrate and sample rate for the audio you are converting.

We timed how long each program took to convert a 625MB WAV file down to a 26MB MP3 file. We found that FairStars Audio Convert falls right in the middle of the pack in terms of conversion speed. A speedy converter will save you time when you are converting an entire library of files, and FairStars is plenty fast in terms of converting WAVs to MP3s. The conversion speed of other files will vary.

We were unable to import the audio files from our test CD using this music converter. Being able to convert audio CD files to smaller file sizes is big reason to own audio converter software. It is disappointing that we were unable import CDA files straight into FairStars and is part of the reason you will find a dip in this audio converter's Ease of Use grade.

Some older audio files from LPs or cassette tapes have noticeable dips in volume compared to CDs or other digital media. An advantage that FairStars has over many audio converters is that it normalizes (automatically adjusts volume levels) when you convert audio files. Only a handful of the audio converters we reviewed have normalization features.

We reached out to FairStars via email and the company was quick to respond to our inquiry. Although there aren't many contact options, the speedy response to our email is indicative of prompt and helpful customer service. The FAQs section on the website is also extensive and helpful if you need an answer to a question quickly.

Summary

FairStars loses some ground in our lineup for its inability to import CDA files, but it boasts other strong audio converting characteristics such as automatic normalization. It is also compatible with many audio file formats so you shouldn’t run into many audio compatibility issues. FairStars is affordable and worth it for the file compatibility alone.
