ZWCAD+ 2015 Review

Author by

PROS / ZWCAD+ works with both Windows and Mac operating systems.

CONS / This software is missing lighting and photo-realistic rendering effects.

VERDICT / ZWCAD+ is less intuitive than the best products in our CAD software reviews, but it has features that speed up the design process and many 2D and 3D editing tools that can tackle most CAD projects.

ZWCAD+ is an easy-to-use CAD software for beginning and intermediate users. Although some important designing tools are missing, you'll still be able to create complex models and prototypes. The software also has great support options for all your questions and training needs.

The user interface is similar to that of Microsoft Office programs. If you’re familiar with those programs, it should make learning this CAD drawing program easier. The command line and macros recorder will simplify the learning process even more. The macro recorder saves frequently used command strings and lets you use them at any time as a single command. This can save a lot time if a section of the design you’re working on duplicates something you’ve done in the past. ZWCAD+ isn't completely intuitive, but with some training and practice, you'll be able to find your way around the customizable tool palettes.

This is a simple CAD program that has pretty much all of the editing tools found in the best CAD software. You'll be able to edit text annotations and color as well as add point markers. This program also supports extruding 3D models from 2D designs and has a layer manager, which will help keep you organized. The 3D functionality isn’t quite up to the level of some products in our lineup, but it’s more than adequate. This software has the added benefit of being compatible with both Windows and Mac operating systems.

This software comes with the standard help section, accessed directly from the interface. We were able to find answers to all of our questions by utilizing the help section’s keyword search. The ZWCAD website also has a FAQs section and learning articles to help you become more familiar with the CAD design software. There’s also a user forum, and you can request direct technical support via an online contact form. Unfortunately, the company does not list local phone numbers for technical support.

This CAD design software supports most of the file formats used in 2D and 3D imaging. Most importantly, it supports DWG files, so you can open, edit and save AutoCAD files without conversion or any data loss. If you need to export a design as a raster image (which allows people to view but not edit the designs), ZWCAD’s export command allows you to save a file as a JPEG, TIFF, PNG, BMP or GIF file. The software also allows you to export DXF, DWF and PDF files. ZWCAD+ is also compatible with Windows 8, 7 Vista and Mac OS X operating systems.

This CAD software is simpler than most of the products in our CAD software lineup. If you’re familiar with Microsoft Office programs, it will be relatively easy to learn. It has features like a macro and a command line that speed up the process of creating a design, especially when you are using command strings you’ve used in the past. You can perform most of the functions, like extruding 3D models from 2D designs, but without quite the same sophistication as some of the better software. This software has decent editing tools coupled with an easy-to-navigate interface, which make it a great alternative for users new to computer-aided design.
