Editor's Note: This review has been removed from our side-by-side comparison because it no longer ranks as a top 10 product. The original review is below, but check out our current top 10 about DVD Authoring Software here.
DVD MovieFactory uses a step-by-step process to walk you through DVD authoring. With DVD MovieFactory, you can import files directly from your camcorder, DVD disc drive, hard drive and TV tuner. Now you have the ability to import HD video, create HD slideshows, edit and preview HD video, burn HD video to AVCHD discs and output files to Blu-ray Discs. This DVD creator includes dozens of stylish templates, a smart auto chapter feature, a slideshow producer, and a built-in DVD burner and label maker.
There are a few features we would have liked this DVD maker software to include, such as the ability to create additional submenus, title menus that lead to submenus and true drag-and-drop functionality. But all in all, beginning DVD authors can't go wrong with DVD MovieFactory.
Corel also offers an advanced, full-featured version of DVD MovieFactory called DVD MovieFactory Plus. DVD MovieFactory Plus includes additional support for HD camcorders, high-definition TV capture, HD slideshows and more.
This DVD making software includes a minimal video editor that can cut scenes or add text to your videos. You can also implement an opening sequence on your DVD that plays prior to your DVD menu.
Creating a slideshow is really easy. Once you select which images you want in your slideshow, you can drag and drop your photographs and arrange them in the order you would like them to be displayed. The Express Fix tool located in the Edit Slideshow feature can change photos' exposure, color saturation, focus, zoom and more. In Edit Slideshow, you can change the pan and zoom, transitions and effects. If you double-click on any photo, you can add text and a small selection of props to it.
DVD MovieFactory can export your videos to your hard drive as MPEG files and play them on almost any computer media player. It is a great way to export your video files without having to burn a DVD. We'd like to mention that your DVD menus will not be present in the file export, and if you are exporting multiple clips, they will be exported separately and saved as multiple files on your computer.
The best DVD creator software and similar programs are process intensive and can often be taxing on your computer system. Although you'll find that DVD MovieFactory doesn't give you as much freedom with menu creation compared to some of the other DVD authoring software we reviewed, this application's selection of templates, moderate controls and ease of use are what really secure it a spot on our lineup.
