PhotoStudio 6 Review

PROS / You can apply a variety of different photo effects to your images.

CONS / The lack of illustration and photo-editing tools limits how much you can do with the software.

VERDICT / While the tools are limited, you can use PhotoStudio to add effects and make basic edits to your photos.

ArcSoft’s PhotoStudio is a basic software program that you can use to create graphic design. The software features a similar interface to most graphic- and photo-editing software, making it easy to find tools and use them. You also can access the user manual from within the application, which can be helpful for difficult tasks.

The graphic design software comes with a few illustration tools you can use to create designs, including several drawing tools. With the brush tool, you can adjust the size and color of it and create your own custom brushes. While the software has a pen tool, it only serves as a drawing utensil and does not offer vector capabilities. Likewise, the program does not have vector brushes or tracing.

The graphic software has a wide selection of font styles and the ability to customize the color, size and weight. With over 670 fonts, you can create various text designs or add captions to your photos. You also can alter the font, shapes, backgrounds or even photos by adjusting the opacity or by adding gradients to them.

This graphic design program excludes several helpful illustration tools and features. Rather than employ grids, custom guides and snapping alignment, the software only uses a ruler. If you add text to a design, you do not have the option to have the text wrapped. It also does not offer a Pantone swatch, which would ensure that the colors on the screen would appear the same after printing. Further, the software is not compatible with tablets.

While the software lags behind in illustration tools, it offers some helpful photo-editing capabilities. You can select from 49 photo filters and apply them to your photos or create a vibrant photo using HDR imaging. For poor-quality images, you can use the editing tools to correct the lighting in the image or remove noise. The software also has tools that sharpen an image or beautify your subjects by removing blemishes, wrinkles or spots.

While the software has several photo filters that you can add to your photos, it lacks basic editing tools. The program excludes content-aware scaling, perspective-based editing, mask tools and automatic lens correction, which all help you create high-quality images. In addition, the software does not have the capabilities to create animated GIFs, make panoramic images or use batch processing to apply the same edit to a number of photos.

The program has some support options in addition to in-application support. The website has forums, as well as video tutorials, to help you learn how to use the software. In addition, the website lists an email address for technical support if you need further assistance.

Summary

In order to create the best graphic design in your projects and photos, you need a wide selection of photo-editing and illustration tools. Unfortunately, PhotoStudio offers limited tools and only has the capabilities to create basic graphic design and photo edits.
