Editing Tools

Adobe is considered a standard in the photo editing software industry. Elements meets that standard with its vast number of basic and advanced editing tools. It is not a watered-down version of Photoshop but a focused photo editor with tools specifically designed to fix and enhance your photos.

The photo editor has three editing modes: Quick Edit, Guided and Expert. Each mode has its own specialty tools and presets. The Quick Edit mode houses several of the basic editing tools such as zoom, crop and color correction.

The Guided mode is where beginning editors will spend most of their time. It includes common adjustments editors make alongside a step-by-step tutorial that takes you through the entire process. This Guided mode serves as a good resource for both beginners and experienced photo editors. If you are trying something new, the software can help you figure out how to edit your photo successfully. Guided Edits can help you apply a set of changes that work together to create an overall effect. For example, you can add a sense of motion for your action shots.

With Expert mode, all of the tools are laid out. You can use the tools to apply advanced edits and take creative control of your images. Elements has a variety of advanced but standard tools. Under this mode, you can choose from 104 creative filters to add texture and color to your images. You also can use the clone tool to fix blemishes.

The latest version of Elements has a tool for remedying the photo imperfections that come with shaky hands, which is common especially in selfies. You can also remove haze from your landscaping photos. The latest version also does a lot of the thinking for you if you allow it. Elements will analyze your photo and list five effects that would fit it. You decide from there which to apply.

One standout feature is the Content Aware Move Tool. This feature allows you to select a person or object and move it somewhere else. The Content Aware function then fills in the hole where the person used to be. This software also has an Auto Tone Tool that corrects the lighting and color tones of a picture. When you use this tool, the program remembers your preferred output settings and adjusts the auto corrections according to your edit.

Elements comes packaged with Adobe Revel photo organizing software. This program helps you import, sort and rate your photos. You can create your own albums and sort photos based on ranking, name, location, date and time. In the latest edition you can even find photos based on who is in them, where you took them and what you were doing.

The program is compatible with other Adobe products, making it ideal software if you use more than one of the company’s programs. While the program helps you organize your photos, it becomes tedious switching back and forth between Revel and Elements.

Import & Export Options

The software supports common image file types, including RAW, JPG, TIFF, PNG, GIF, PSD, PDF and animated GIFs. When you are editing photos, you can resize the image and file size to optimize it for online content. Smaller file sizes help your webpage load quickly.

Elements places an emphasis on sharing. You can post your edited pictures directly to Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, SmugMug and other online photo galleries. You also can generate a URL for your web album that can be emailed to your friends and family.

While Adobe Revel is a separate program, it stores your photos in the cloud, allowing you to access them from different devices. If you do not want to share your photos online, you can always print them off. Elements has printing project resources you can use to print your edited photos at home.

Help & Support

The picture editor includes support resources within the application. Using the Guided Edit mode, you can access tutorials. You also have access to the user guide. In addition, Adobe has video tutorials, FAQs and a user forum on its website to address questions. If you still need help, you can contact Adobe’s support team by phone, email or live chat.

Adobe Photoshop Elements is one of the best photo editing software options for both beginners and experts. The program has the tools professionals need but maintains its ease of use with its support options and Guided Edit mode. If you are looking for photo editing software that you can begin learning on and grow with, Elements is a good option to consider.
