PROS / The FaceMe face recognition tool helps identify people in your slideshow.
CONS / Telephone support requires an additional fee and lasts for only two months.
VERDICT / Transition and background selection is limited, but CyberLink MediaShow offers many unique features, including a calendar view and FaceMe technology.
If you want to create a beautiful photo slideshow quickly, CyberLink MediaShow is an application worth considering. It features transition effects and photo-editing capabilities in addition to exceptional output options. This slideshow software is relatively easy to use, so you can create a professional and custom slideshow in record time.
Along with many advanced features, CyberLink MediaShow offers the basic tools found in most slideshow makers. This application features 31 transition effects, and you can add an audio track to give your presentations an entertaining touch. Additionally, it doesn't limit the number of images you can import into a slideshow.
This slideshow creator has features that make it navigable, even if you are just learning how to make a slideshow. For example, it organizes your images into a calendar interface. This saves time if you are creating a chronological slideshow and cannot remember when photos were taken. MediaShow is the only program in our lineup that offers calendar functionality.
This software also offers FaceMe, a face-recognition tool, which helps identify people in your slideshow. You can also find photos using this feature by searching the subject's name in a designated search bar. Additionally, there is a content filter and an instant view content slider so you can quickly get your hands on a particular photo or video clip. Very few of the photo slideshow programs on our lineup offer this feature.
This photo slideshow software has many one-click commands, such as options for sharing your presentation on YouTube and other media. There is also a slideshow preview display you can see at any point while creating your slideshow.
CyberLink MediaShow includes quick-fix photo-editing options, such as red eye removal, cropping, auto brightness, contrast, balance and lighting. It also has effects that can make your images look professionally altered, most notably by converting them to different photo finishes, such as black and white or sepia.
The slideshow software makes it simple to add music to your slideshows with a few clicks, and the software automatically adjusts the length of the audio clip to match the length of the slideshow, or you can set the music to loop. There is not a tool for recording your voice to narrate slides, though, which higher-ranked products offer.
CyberLink MediaShow can import images from anywhere, including from local image files on your hard drive and connected devices, such as portable drives and digital cameras. It can import DV-AVI, MPEG1, MPEG2, DVR-MS and WMV video files and export MPEG2 and WMV files. You also can publish to an iPhone, iPod or other mobile device.
CyberLink MediaShow offers beneficial support features in the event you run into any technical troubles or have general questions. The built-in help section offers a useful product guide, while the CyberLink website provides FAQs, free software updates and email support. The company offers telephone support, but it is a service you must pay for separately, something that isn't in keeping with the support offered by other slideshow software programs.
CyberLink MediaShow lacks free telephone support, but it is a user-friendly product in many other respects. With features like face recognition and calendar tools, it's an application with enough features to make your slideshows look well done without putting in endless hours of effort.
