Pinnacle Studio 19 earned a spot in our review of the best video editing software because it offers an impressive selection of editing, organizational and publishing tools. Its efficient workflows and firm coding make these tools relatively easy to use and learn. From importing your footage to building your project and sharing it with an audience, this video editing software provides the tools and resources you need to create a compelling project.

Most video editing programs have at least two separate editing modes – timeline and storyboard. Timeline allows you to arrange your clips and other media by length, while storyboard offers a more simplified canvas that shows you each element without regard to how long it runs. In most cases, you can switch between these two modes with your changes intact.

  1. An editing track is where you arrange the media in your video project.

Pinnacle takes a different approach. Rather than allowing you to utilize only the timeline or storyboard mode at any given time, Pinnacle lets you use both simultaneously by placing the storyboard above the timeline canvas. This rather innovative feature cannot be found in any other video editing software we reviewed.

Pinnacle Studio offers six tracks on your timeline for editing. This is enough space for you to compose most simple projects. If you've ever used video editing software before, you'll see that there's nothing particularly special about how the timeline itself works. However, there are some ancillary features that make it stand out. For example, Pinnacle makes it quite simple to adjust your timeline settings. Properties such as aspect ratio, size and frame rate can be easily accessed and adjusted with a single click from the timeline.

Additionally, this video editing software allows you to build highly customized workflows. This is accomplished by creating personalized tabbed media bins and what Pinnacle Studio refers to as Watchfolders. These specialized folders are monitored by Pinnacle, and whenever new media is inserted into them, the application automatically imports them into your media bins.

This video editing program comes preloaded with more than 1,800 effects, titles and templates, transitions, and other objects. This is far more than any of the other video editors on our product lineup. The sheer breadth and scope of the libraries offered by Pinnacle make it one of the best applications you can buy.

The newest version of this video editing software employs 64-bit architecture. This means that if you have a 64-bit machine, the application can take true advantage of your system's resources.

This software's interface and tools may be intimidating and confusing for first-time users. You'll have to invest more than a few hours getting to know the software. But it's worth the time if you want to take advantage of all the powerful tools Pinnacle Studio offers.

Exporting your project is a relatively simple affair with Pinnacle Studio 19. You can export your finished video to a good number of file formats and upload them to sharing sites such as YouTube and Facebook pretty easily.

You can also create a DVD, but this application lacks the ability to author Blu-rays. And while Pinnacle Studio lacks 4K (ultra-high def) support, if you upgrade to the Ultimate version of the software, you have the ability to export in extremely high resolution.

Pinnacle offers one of the finest knowledgebases in our review of the best video editing software. Their website has hundreds of articles, video tutorials and forums to help you use this software to its fullest potential. If you have a problem with the software or need to learn how to use a feature, this should be the first place you look.

If the knowledgebase doesn't have the answers you're looking for, you also have the ability to reach out to customer support through Pinnacle’s website. You can either submit a technical support ticket through their email system or chat live with a customer service representative. Emails are usually answered within 24 hours, and the wait for the live chat is typically about 10 minutes.

Pinnacle Studio 19 has a great deal to offer. It has more effects, transitions, titles and effects than any other program we reviewed. It offers a unique timeline/storyboard dynamic and is highly customizable. However, while it is relatively simple to use, it can frustrate first-time users, and it lacks the ability to burn Blu-ray discs. But on the whole, it is excellent video editing software that shouldn’t disappoint those who want to build complex projects.
