Author by

PROS / The software is easy to use and compatible with all recent versions of Windows.

CONS / It was unable to identify three-quarters of our test PC's available drivers.

VERDICT / Advanced Driver Updater's automatic scans and customization options are backed by good customer service, making it a decent driver update program.

With Advanced Driver Updater, you can easily scan your system, install updates automatically, and even back up or restore drivers. It didn't catch most of the drivers on our test computer, but it offers some useful options that make it good driver update software.

This driver software was only able to identify a quarter of our test PC's drivers during testing, much less than the best driver updaters, leaving us to wonder what important drivers it may have missed. However, for all of the drivers it did identify, we were easily able to view the sources and version details for each. While it certainly could be more efficient, the scanning capability can still give you a decent idea of the overall health of your computer.

Sometimes a driver update ends up not being a good fit and prevents your computer from running optimally. With Advanced Driver Updater's backup and restore function, you can make a copy of some or all of your drivers and even restore your computer back to a previous point if an update doesn't work out. The software also lets you schedule automatic scans as frequently as you need, taking the stress off of you. We were pleased to see that the software doesn't have any hidden bloatware, malware or ads, and that it does only what it says it will do.

In case there are a few drivers on your system you know are OK and don't need an update, the software's exclusion feature lets you select specific drivers to update, giving you control over your computer's health. However, there is no uninstall option, which would let you delete old drivers you no longer need. The software does not disclose whether or not it only relies on original equipment manufacturer (OEM) sources for updates, which means that its sources are not guaranteed free of malware.

The software is backed by a good amount of direct and indirect customer support resources. Unlike most other manufacturers on this lineup, this software's manufacturer, Systweak, lets you contact its support team directly via phone or email, whichever you prefer. If you don't want to talk to anyone directly, you can peruse the knowledgebase.

Though it didn't detect as many drivers as other programs on our lineup, Advanced Driver Updater can automatically scan your system and perform a backup and restore. It has decent technical support options and is easy to use, making it a good driver updater overall.
