Microsoft Antivirus, the Wave, and Nuvi...
Your Tech News Resource
Welcome to TopTenREPORTS, I'm Jessica Foust. After almost two years since the announcementÃGarmin will finally release the Nuvifone on October 4th. So what's so neat about this phone? It's the first smart phone to feature full native GPS capabilities. With the phone - you get preloaded maps of North America filled with millions of points of interest and voice guided directions. Just like Garmin's stand alone GPS units you will get real-time traffic and gas price updates for a subscription fee of six dollars. Additionally, AT and T will carry the phone which is 3G and Wifi capable. It comes with a 3 megapixel camera and 2 gigabytes of storage space and microSD expansion slot. Microsoft has rolled out its free anti-virus tool. Users can now use Microsoft's Security Essentials anti-virus program to keep the malware away. Microsoft says it's not trying to compete with big name commercial antivirus programs like McAfee and Norton. Its goal is to ëencourage broader adoption of anti-virus protection across the consumer audience'. The antivirus program uses the same engine that Microsoft's ill-fated Onecare used. But unlike Onecare, Security Essentials will only provide antivirus protection. You won't get a firewall, system optimizer or other features found in your average security suite. For information on full antivirus software visit our antivirus review page for the best rate software available. Think that recession only affects the little guys? Think again. Microsoft filed papers with the SEC this week in which they revealed that their CEO Steve Ballmer will take a five percent pay cut due to the companies poor performance. This move keeps with Microsoft's efforts to make sure that all its cuts affect its entire workforce. The company saw its first drop in revenue in 2009, falling nine percent. But I won't worry about the financial position of either Microsoft or Ballmer. The company still brought in 20 billion dollars this year, and Ballmer himself is worth just over ten billion. Google passed out invitations to developers to test their new online tool: Google Wave. In fact they sent out 100,000 invitations and then those invitees can invite five other testers to join their wave. Google Wave is a personal communication and collaboration tool that was announced by Google back in May. The idea behind Wave is to merge e-mail, instant messaging, wiki, and social networking. Google says wave will be the next generation of internet communication.
