By implementing the latest technology, the iBaby Monitor eliminates the need for a separate video screen by turning your personal device, such as iPhone, iPad and iPod, into a baby video monitor using Wi-Fi. This, of course, allows you to monitor from home or check in on your baby anytime if, for instance, your baby is with a sitter and you and your spouse step out.

This is incredibly convenient. It cuts down on extra hardware and lets you do things you can't do on a traditional monitor, like toggle between an eBook and your napping baby using the same device.

While this monitor is not the most attractive on the market, it's not what you would call ugly either. And when you see how well it functions, you'll get used to the design and may even start liking it. It calls to mind a friendly little E.T.-like alien, looking out for your little one. Far more important than the design is that it has many great features that set it apart from the competition.

If you're one of the increasing population of people who love the convenience of having the greater part of your life attached to a single device, you will love this.

One of the standout features of this monitor is the easy pan and tilt capabilities. Manipulating the camera is almost as easy as flipping through the pages of an eBook. Once you download the application you can swipe left and right or up and down and get close to 360 degrees of coverage. If they added a zoom feature to go with the pan and tilt, it would be close to perfection. At times you may get a little lag, but it will run great most of the time. This panning and scanning will all happen quietly enough it won't disturb a sleeping baby, and even an awake baby may not notice it.

This unit also allows you to take photos from the application of resolutions up to 640 x 480. The iBaby Monitor is multi-camera expandable if you want to add more cameras to the network.

The iBaby Monitor has a leg up on some of the other Wi-Fi enabled baby video monitors by allowing for two-way communication. Though it doesn't come with an external speaker, there is a port for attaching a speaker to the camera. This will allow you to not only hear your baby through your iPhone or other iDevice, but to talk back and sooth your baby from the next room.

If the baby is fussing, the camera will pick up on sounds and motions and alert you with customizable settings, even if the app isn't running.

The iBaby Monitor utilizes the latest 802.11n Wi-Fi technology for maximum bandwidth. This means you will get the best Wi-Fi service available, which won't always be flawless, but the vast majority of the time you will get uninterrupted transmission. With 802.11n support, this unit lets you work on a variety of networks other Wi-Fi services may not support.

This camera isn't as compact as a lot of the other cameras in our lineup. Its extra heft will be a pro for some, a con for others and a non-factor for many, but it serves a purpose by providing a lot of connections and extras that a smaller package wouldn't easily contain.

You can use an ethernet connection to run the camera, which is good to have as an option in case there are Wi-Fi issues for whatever reason. The initial setup process is somewhat problematic in that you must plug the camera into the router the first time and go through a step-by-step process to get the wireless network up and running. Once you are set up, everything runs easily and smoothly from there.

The iBaby website has a helpful FAQ section that places questions in categories to make it easy to navigate to find answers to your specific questions. Helpful customer service representative are also available by phone or email. Facebook and Twitter communities can help you find answers to many of your questions.

The iBaby Monitor is a state-of-the-art answer to keeping tabs on your baby in the most streamlined, user-friendly way. It earns its place near the top of our baby video monitor reviews. Using the latest technology, this camera runs off Wi-Fi and uses your personal devices to keep track of your baby with pan and tilt capabilities that are generally as easy to manipulate as an eBook. Setup could be streamlined a little to match, but overall this is one of the best monitors out there.
