If you need a good baby video monitor that you can take with you for a trip to grandmother's house or to the family cabin for the weekend, the Lorex Live Snap is a good fit. Its compact design makes it extremely portable.
Plus, if grandma is watching the baby for the weekend and you don't want to miss out on any special moments, this monitor has a rare built-in camera capability. You will be able to snap and save as many as 4,000 photos on the included SD card using this baby video monitor. If you want to keep family and friends up to date on your baby's progress, this monitor can help you do that.
While the snapshot capability is a nice feature, the quality of the snapshots could be better. In other words, don't expect this to take the place of your digital camera where your baby is concerned.
The handheld receiver portion looks and feels like a cell phone rather compared to the walkie-talkie feel of some other monitors we reviewed. You can take the receiver pretty far away with you, too. It has a range of 450 feet. You can stay up on what is happening with your baby as you do laundry, get the mail or clean the house.
This is an easy system to expand, and we think parents will value that, especially as your baby gets more mobile. It will also be of great value as your family expands. You can monitor up to four cameras with one receiver, so you can keep an eye and an ear on multiple rooms in your home. The two-way talk feature allows you to use your voice to settle your baby when you are in another part of the house.
Battery life is slightly below average at five hours, but your actual experience will vary greatly depending on different types of usage. This model offers VOX mode, for instance, which means the unit can be set to go into standby mode until there is noise from the baby. That saves battery life.
You will have full control over brightness and volume with this baby video monitor, and you will be able to see your baby in any lighting, even the darkest rooms.
We like that this unit tracks signal strength so you are never left with a false sense of security. If you go out of the range of the monitor, you will hear a beeping sound and the monitor will display a message.
Other Baby Video Monitors reviews
The sound quality is adequate. Overall, it will very likely sound better than previous generations of baby video monitors, but sometimes the sound can cut in and out.
The LCD screen size on this unit is about average, but it is designed to be super bright and offer high quality images. We like that you can view video images in a number of configurations too – Single Channel, Scan Mode and Quad Split Screen.
The Lorex site is well organized, and we found the online manual and FAQs easily. There are a variety of easy ways to contact customer service representatives, and they are quite helpful.
Other products in our baby video monitor reviews have better battery life, range and screen size, but Lorex Live Snap really stands out in terms of portability. Its compact size will make it easy to take anywhere. While this device falls somewhat shy of the top-rated baby video monitors, it is a great option if you are always on the go.
