Best Heaters of 2019

Best Heaters of 2019 - Top-Rated Gas, Electric Home Heating Solutions

We’ve spent over 100 hours testing, evaluating and researching heating appliances across five categories since 2014. Our tests and evaluations focus on heating power, energy efficiency and convenience features to help you learn what’s important when shopping for a new heater.

While no heater is suitable for every situation, each of the heaters below represents the best performance in its class. For example, the Lasko 6462 is a superior portable space heater due to its 360-degree oscillation, which helps circulate heated air more effectively through a room.

Beyond the heaters listed here, you can find additional information in our expanded comparisons for electric fireplaces, space heaters, gas furnaces, patio heaters and baseboard heaters.

Best Electric Fireplace

Duraflame DFI-5010

Duraflame DFI-5010

The Duraflame DFI-5010 electric fireplace can warm areas up 1,000 square feet using an infrared heating element and a fan. It has helpful touchpad controls that hide out of sight when not in use and a remote control, both of which allow you to adjust heat settings, timers and flame height. This heater has useful safety features such as an overheating shutoff and a cool-touch exterior. We like that the DFI-5010 comes in six colors, looks similar to a rustic wood-burning stove and has a realistic-looking 3D flame effect. Duraflame's one-year warranty isn't very long, but falls in line with that of other electric fireplaces.

Best Space Heater

Lasko 6462

Lasko 6462

One of the best things about the Lasko 6462 is its 360-degree oscillation, which allows the heater to blow warm air in any direction without being repositioned. This model has high and low heating modes as well as a built-in digital thermostat so you can heat your room to your liking. Unfortunately, the Lasko 6462 doesn't have a fan-only mode, so it won't work as a tower fan during the summer. Unlike the one-year warranties you might see on other space heaters, Lasko has a longer three-year warranty. The Lasko 6462 lacks a couple useful safety features such as a tip-over sensor or shut-off timer, though it has an overheat shut-off sensor.

Best Gas Furnace

Bryant

Bryant

Bryant's gas furnaces are a good fit for most homes because they have a good balance between performance and price. Bryant's flagship modulating gas furnace, the Bryant Evolution 987M has an incredible energy efficiency of 98.3 percent AFUE, making it one of the most efficient furnaces available. However, this model can be expensive compared to Bryant's other gas furnace offerings in the Preferred and Legacy series. On Bryant's most efficient furnaces, those with efficiency ratings over 92 percent AFUE, you can get a lifetime heat exchanger warranty if you register the product. For other furnace parts, Bryant offers a 10-year parts warranty.

AZ HLDS01

AZ Patio Heaters makes some excellent freestanding patio heaters if you're on a budget. This 40,000-BTU propane heater can produce heat in a six-foot radius, which is a good fit for smaller patios and decks. Best Baseboard Heater

Dimplex PC6025W31

Dimplex PC6025W31

The Dimplex PC6025W31 has an efficient, compact design. It works with more types of home wiring setups than other baseboard heaters we reviewed. While a lot can depend on your wiring, at maximum power it puts out enough heat for well-insulated rooms up to 400 square feet. Its heating element is designed to prevent rust and increase the life of the heater. The element also has aluminum fins that direct warm air up and out of the unit so it can effectively heat the room.

This Dimplex is the only baseboard heater we evaluated with a built-in thermostat, so you won’t need to buy one separately. You can also purchase a remote control. The heating element is covered by a 10-year warranty, which is comparable to other baseboard heaters. All other parts have a one-year warranty.
