Cookbook Wizard is cookbook and recipe software that will allow you to create shopping lists and webpages of your recipes, and organize them so they’re easy to search and sort. It is simple and straightforward to use. However, it does not offer some of the more advanced features that other recipe programs offer.
Although Cookbook Wizard is user-friendly, many of the processes are manual cutting and pasting, which gives the program a lower score. However, it's fairly straightforward to navigate through Cookbook Wizard's different work areas using the tabs at the top of the screen.
Earning points for search flexibility, Cookbook Wizard allows you to sort and search recipes in a variety of ways, including cuisines and occasions, ingredients on hand, main ingredient and preparation method. You can also rank and search by level of difficulty. However, this program does not have auto-complete or spell check for the typing fields.
One feature we did like in this recipe program is that it will automatically generate HTML coding so you can share your recipes on the web. Additionally, you can create a recipe database that you can back up, allowing you to keep your recipes safe. You can also use this recipe program to create your own cookbook to share with others.
Unfortunately, we found that this recipe program does not offer much in the way of a meal planner. It does allow you to create shopping lists for your trip to the grocery store. However, this is more of a manual process than an automated one.
Cookbook Wizard cookbook and recipe software comes with more than 700 easy recipes, from shrimp and artichoke pizza to Grand Marnier Soufflé, but there are no photographs. The software includes many search categories – but surprisingly no dessert category. Be sure to add one under Manage Categories.
One of the added features that we do like in this recipe program is called Spice Rack. This feature will recommend just the right seasonings for any meal. For example, it recommends tarragon with white fish and tuna. It suggests marjoram as an excellent choice for carrots, corn, tomatoes, squash and chicken. And it recommends oregano for Italian dishes and with vegetables such as eggplant, peppers and zucchini.
Cookbook Wizard is an adequate program for those who want to store recipes in a searchable database. Because it comes with the ability to create your own cookbook and to publish webpages of your recipes, you can share your ingredients and preparation instructions with others. However, we would like to see Cookbook Wizard add a menu planner in the future.
