The Sizzix eclips2 can help you make beautiful craft projects. It cuts paper, cardstock, vinyl and other materials precisely for gorgeous finished products to use in scrapbooks and cards. Beyond cutting, its scoring feature changes the surface of materials just enough so you get a perfect folding line for making gift boxes.
This die cutter is faster and quieter than its predecessor. Even with its substantial cutting force, though, the eclips2 cannot handle heavy-duty materials like some of our higher-ranking machines. It can apply up to 600 grams of force to its blade, which is enough force to slice through tough paper and cloth. However, it struggles with materials like rubber, leather or sheet metal. This die-cutting machine is also rather limited in terms of its capabilities. While the eclips2 helps you cut, draw and pierce certain materials, you won't find it up to par if you need to emboss or engrave items.
Previous models gave you the option of using cartridges, which made it possible to cut items without being tethered to your computer. This is a plus if you do not want to learn new software or lug your laptop everywhere, but cartridges also limit the designs you can create. With the re-designed eclips2, this die cutter is now completely cartridge-free.
The Sizzix eclips2 is still competitive, if not a showstopper. One reason is that this die-cut machine is still relatively easy to use thanks to the included software, eCAL lite, a version of Sure Cuts A Lot. You can design your own projects, select from included pre-designed shapes or buy hundreds more on the Sizzix eshape store.
You can create some beautiful handmade projects with the Sizzix eclips2. If you need a good die-cutting machine for simple scrapbooking and cards, this is a contender. But if you're looking for a tough, durable, all-purpose cutter or leather-cutting machine that can handle a range of materials, there are sturdier machines than the eclips2. This die cutter is a solid tool for many digital die cutting projects, though, and is priced fairly for what it offers.
