Gigaset (formerly known as Siemens) makes cordless phones that sport a modern and minimalistic design that will complement any interior, and the phones themselves feature a seamless user interface. The Gigaset S820A is a touchscreen cordless phone that has space to store up to 55 minutes of messages, more than any home phone we ranked. It offers a keypad like a traditional phone and has advanced features like call blocking and text message forwarding.

Performance

This cordless phone has an impressive 20 hours of battery life, which is longer than every other cordless home phone we reviewed. If the phone is on standby, it will last 10 days before the battery dies. Some other cordless phones have an average standby battery life of just six days.

The long battery life makes up for the fact that this cordless phone set comes with just two handsets, fewer than other top models include. Multiple handsets are nice because, let's face it, we all are guilty of not always putting the phone back on the hook and occasionally losing it in the couch cushions. Fortunately, you can add up to six handsets; however, they run around $100, which is a bit pricey.

With the Gigaset S820A, you get Bluetooth capability so you can easily pair your smartphone or a wireless headset to the telephone. Gigaset even offers text message forwarding, so you can send and receive text messages with your device. However, you have to reach out to your carrier to enable the setting. The phone has a capacitive touchscreen, meaning you have to push the buttons displayed on the screen harder than the gentle tap you'd use on an iPhone. This makes it difficult to swipe and scroll, but it isn't impossible.

The phone's physical buttons are easy to read and are illuminated so it is easy to dial in the dark.

The base for the cordless phone has a built-in answering machine. You can save nearly an hour of messages. Other cordless phones only store around 20 minutes of messages. This cordless phone doesn't have a speakerphone function. It still has intercom functionality present with the handsets, but not with the base.

Programmable Settings

This is one of the more customizable cordless phones on the market. You can connect this phone to your PC, synchronize it with Microsoft Outlook, download wallpapers and assign different pictures to your contacts. You also have the ability to label and name the different handsets and the names will appear on the touchscreen display, for example, you could label one phone Kitchen and another Living Room.

The phone can store 500 entries in the phonebook. It also remembers the past 20 callers' names and numbers so you can easily call them back. The phone is loud and has clear sound on both the earpiece and the speaker. If you need to adjust the volume, there are five levels to choose from. When you don't want to be bothered, it also has a silent setting.

Summary

The Gigaset S820A is extremely well designed and has all the features that you need – with the exception of a speakerphone. The phone has plenty of adjustable settings and stores a lot of data, much more than other cordless phones we reviewed. All of this makes it one of the top cordless phones available.
