The Cisco SG110D-08HP is an 8-port switch designed to offer a professional quality network expansion with fast ethernet transfer speeds for both home and small business owners. While it doesn't quite make it onto our best Ethernet switches list, the Cisco SG110D-08HP is still a great choice if you're looking to expand your network.

Cisco SG110D-08HP review: Features

The Cisco SG110D-08HP is an eight-port Ethernet switch that is part of Cisco’s 110 series, which is designed for use in small business networks. However, its user-friendly design makes this switch particularly useful for home users as well, especially if you have a high number of data transfers or are looking to improve performance for online gaming. This switch has 16 Gbps switching capacity for fast, uninterrupted service, even during high-traffic times. The switch also supports the connection speeds needed to support HDTV streaming and VoIP phone connections for home users.

The Cisco SG110D-08HP comes with a plug-and-play design, which makes setup and installation simple and requires no software or configurations. The physical switch is compact, measuring just 5.51” in size, making it ideal for desktop use or wall mounting. The switch includes all of the necessary mounting hardware.

The front of this switch features connection-speed LED indicators that allow you to monitor performance and make any necessary changes to the adjacent Ethernet connectors. The ports do face the back, which some users may not prefer, as front-facing ports like those on the Buffalo Technology BSGS2008 allow for easier mounting and less issues with cords.

This Cisco switch offers support for 10 Mbps, 100 Mbps and as high as 1,000 Mbps devices, meaning you can use the switch with a variety of existing products. This switch comes outfitted with automatic cable detection, meaning you don’t have to worry about using the wrong cable. The switch can detect which type of cable is being used and automatically push the right amount of energy through that cable.

Cisco’s 8-Port Gigabit Switch was designed with energy efficiency in mind. The switch comes with Energy-Efficient Ethernet, which reduces the switch’s energy consumption by monitoring the ports and going into power-saving mode when connected devices are off. The D-Link DGS-1008G also uses this energy-saving technology.

Should you buy the Cisco SG110D-08HP?

Overall, the Cisco SG110D-08HP is a versatile, high-powered Ethernet switch for both home and small business users. If you do not mind the front-facing LED lights and the back-facing ports, then this solution can be an ideal option for those who need to boost their high-speed internet capacity with a convenient, user-friendly tool.
