The Fitbit Aria Wi-Fi Smart Scale is a great wellness product with versatile capabilities to help you lose weight, achieve your fitness goals, but it has been replaced in recent years by the newer Aria 2 and the Aria Air. The Aria still shares many of the features of the best bathroom scales, such as ease of use and app compatibility, and is much cheaper now as it's an older product.

The does mean it lacks more of the modern features that make the latest smart bathroom scales so good at helping you track your weight loss, BMI, water weight and even body composition, but it still outperforms many 'dumb' bathroom scales and has actually become a real steal at such a new low price.

Fitbit Aria Wi-Fi Smart Scale review: Design

Bathroom scales are generally utilitarian as far as looks go, and some are downright ugly. However, the Aria Wi-Fi Smart Scale is sleek and attractive, as you would expect from a brand that makes some of the best fitness trackers in the world right now. You can buy this smart scale in either black or white, and its sleek, monochrome design fits in well with most bathroom decor.

The Aria measures just 1.3" high (body is 12.3 x 12.3 inches square) and rests on four slightly rounded feet to keep it in place. You can tuck it neatly out of the way when not in use, and scale automatically recalibrates whenever you move it around. It's also easy to check the numbers on the large, digital display.

Fitbit's original smart scale can measure body weight up to a maximum of 350lbs, so if you are currently heavier than that, take a look at the Weight Gurus Bluetooth Smart Body, which measures body weight up to 400lbs.

Fitbit Aria Wi-Fi Smart Scale review: Features

The smart scale is easy to use since it connects to the Wi-Fi in your home. Every time you step on the scale, this device records your information and automatically syncs to your online Fitbit account. While setting the scale up to connect to your wireless network can be difficult, the Fitbit app walks you through each step and ensures that you get connected.

Of course, the scale measures your current weight, but it also measures your body mass index and percentage of body fat. One drawback is that it can only handle up to 350 pounds, while some competing scales can handle weights of 400 pounds or more. If you want a scale that can handle more weight, you might want to consider the iHealth Core Wireless Body Composition Scale

The Fitbit Aria also remembers your previous weight. The scale includes memory for up to eight individual profiles, so you can get your entire family involved in individual fitness efforts tailored to their needs, such as losing weight, adding muscle or gaining weight, while tracking overall health improvement at the same time.

Fitbit Aria Wi-Fi Smart Scale review: Performance

Our testing showed that this is one of the most accurate bathroom scales on our lineup. While we tested free weights on the scale, it varied slightly if at all, indicating that this scale takes precise and accurate measurements. We also had several volunteers step on the scale to test consistency. The scale showed the same weight each time.

You don't need to worry about your data being confused with someone else's as this scale can determine who is stepping onto it. The Fitbit smart scale displays your name or initials before it shows your weight and other information. There's little risk of others viewing your information since your account is password protected.

This is the Aria's strongest category. Your online account and the app that comes with the scale permit you to set personal goals, input the foods you have eaten, track how much water you have consumed and keep a record of your workouts.

All the information from your scale is synced to your online Fitbit account, and along with what you input yourself, you can get bright and clear pie, bar and line graphs of that data. These make it is easy to see how you are doing, whether your plan is to lose 25 pounds before a friend's wedding, gain weight after a serious illness or build muscle for a competition.

Fitbit Aria Wi-Fi Smart Scale review: Health tracking

Depending on the additional apps you choose to use with the Fitbit Aria system, you can track other physical fitness factors such as glucose, blood pressure and activity levels. Some of these apps are free, while others require a paid subscription. We would also recommend the Withings Body scale for health tracking features.

You can access your account through your computer or download the free Fitbit app on your iPhone, Android or Windows device. Unlike a number of smart bathroom scales, which are limited to one kind of device, this weight scale can connect to a wide selection of devices.

Along with the multifaceted app that comes with the scale, the Fitbit Aria weight scale is compatible with numerous other apps that you can find in the Fitbit App Gallery. Using your online account, you can keep your data in one place, check it easily and get a clear view of how your health is improving. You can couple the scale with a Fitbit tracker and monitor activity, sleep or daily steps.

The system tracks your fitness data over time so you can see how you are progressing. It offers a fun feature – an achievement alert once you have met a particular goal. It is enjoyable to get an email alert from your electronic friend cheering you on. You also get weekly emails that detail your progress in case you do not take time to check your account. If you choose, you can adjust your privacy settings to share your milestones with friends on social media.
