The KitchenAid KRSF505ESShas some impressive features not typically found in side-by-side fridges. It is, however, no longer available in a new condition from large retailers. To find a better alternative, head over to the best side-by-side refrigerators guide.
Capacity & Shelving
In the refrigerator compartment of this model are four shelves with a spillproof design to keep messes from spreading to other parts of the fridge. However, these shelves are not adjustable, so you can’t create additional space for taller items. A more affordable side-by-side fridge with adjustable shelves is the Kenmore 50043. There are five door bins and two are large enough to hold gallon-size containers or 2-liter bottles. The underside of a shelf houses a wire bottle rack designed to hold up to four bottles so they don’t take up space in other areas.
Two of the three drawers are humidity- and temperature-controlled crispers, which are great for storing fruit and vegetables. The third is a large deli drawer. The freezer has four shelves, two drawers and three door bins. These are all made of a sturdy, clear plastic so you can see what is stored in them. The icemaker and ice bin are housed in the freezer door.
Conveniences
The KitchenAid KRSF505ESS doesn’t have as many extra convenience features as some refrigerators in our comparison, but it has all the necessities. It includes a freezer-side water and ice dispenser with a lockout feature, so you can control when it can dispense water and ice. Another dispenser control is a metered fill that only dispenses a set amount of water so you don’t have to worry about any spillover.
The refrigerator controls are located along with the water dispenser in the freezer door. In addition to setting the temperature of each section of the refrigerator, you can set a door alarm. This alarm sounds after a door is left open for a set amount of time, usually a minute. This is a great energy-saving feature.
This refrigerator has three color options for the finish: stainless steel, black and white. This is more than most side-by-side refrigerators, which typically only have a stainless steel finish. This selection makes it easier to match your fridge to your kitchen decor or other appliances you already have.
Efficiency & Warranty
With 24.8 cubic feet of total storage space, the KitchenAid refrigerator has an average capacity. It is Energy Star qualified and is the most energy-efficient side-by-side refrigerator in our review. It costs an estimated $73 yearly to run, which is the smallest amount of any fridge in our reviews. It also uses the least amount of energy by far at 610 kilowatts per year. This feature-packed fridge is also by far the most expensive in our lineup.
KitchenAid includes a one-year warranty on all parts and labor for the KRSF505ESS. This is standard for side-by-side refrigerators. After this initial year of coverage, KitchenAid extends its warranty to cover the sealed system for an additional five years. This system keeps your refrigerator cold, and the long warranty makes the parts cheaper to fix if they break. Warranty information is in the user guide. If you misplace your physical copy, you can access a digital copy from the KitchenAid website.

The KitchenAid KRSF505ESS doesn’t have the largest capacity among the fridges we reviewed, like the LG LSXS26366S but it has a lot of well-laid-out storage space and nice features. It is also the most efficient refrigerator we reviewed – it costs the least to run and uses the least electricity. While the spillproof shelves in the refrigerator are not adjustable, this KitchenAid includes five door bins and a unique bottle rack to hold bulky items. It is a well-constructed fridge with a lot of nice features, but those features come at a price as this is the most expensive fridge in our lineup.
