Humana is a well-established insurance provider, available as of 2019 in all 50 states, plus the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. It has an excellent range of services, most notably its home healthcare options, suited to older customers or those suffering from conditions that could affect their ability to live alone or travel for treatment. The company was founded in 1961 as Extendicare Inc, a nursing home company that started out in Kentucky and which was the largest nursing home company in the United States by 1968. According to the latest numbers published, at least 13 million customers are served by with Humana health insurance.
Humana have teamed up with Walmart, Walmart Neighborhood Markets, and Sam's Club to create a list of their preferred cost-sharing pharmacies, and there are good savings to be had if customers sign up for their Humana Walmart Value Rx Plan.
Humana offer two other options, one a basic, entry-level plan, the other more comprehensive. All their plans are good value relative to the other plans available on the marketplace.
The three Medicare prescription drugs plans are clearly listed on the website and can be easily compared. The quote process only requires a zip code and doesn’t involve any follow-up sales calls or the handing over of much more personal information. Humana offer a Medication Therapy Management consultancy service for customers weighing up the plans who take a large number of medications prescribed by more than one doctor, which is a big help for some customers.

There will of course be some discrepancies in prices when looking at quotes for individual Medicare Part D plans, but we took as our standard a married, middle-aged man without any pre-existing conditions living in Louisiana. The plans will be explained in more detail below, but the quotes came back as follows:
The Humana Basic Rx Plan, Humana’s most basic plan, has a yearly deductible of $435 and was quoted at $30.50 per month.
The Humana Premier Rx Plan, Humana’s comprehensive plan, has an identical deductible but has a premium of $61.10 monthly.
The Humana Walmart Value Rx Plan also has the same deductible, but has a monthly premium of $13.20. Details of these plans are expanded on below.

Humana Rx has three Medicare Part D plans that are available to potential customers, each with differing premiums and levels of benefits, deductibles and coverage. The details of each plan are clearly laid out on the Humana website, and it’s very easy to find out which plan would be the most suitable for a customer’s specific requirements.
The Humana Basic Rx Plan is Humana’s entry-level plan with basic Plan D coverage. It features co-pays as low as $0 (after deductible) for Tier 1 prescription drugs filled at any standard retail cost-share pharmacy or through Humana Pharmacy mail delivery. The Humana Basic Rx Plan lets customers shop at their preferred supplier. It offers an extensive network of pharmacies with affordable co-pays in most regions. If a customer signs up for their mail delivery service, they may save even more.
The Humana Premier Rx Plan offers Humana’s most comprehensive prescription drug coverage. There is a $0 deductible on Tier 1 and Tier 2 medications and a $435 annual deductible on Tiers 3, 4 and 5 medications in all states (with the exceptions of $425 in New York). In-store co-pays are as low as $1 on a 30-day supply of certain generic drugs at Walmart, Walmart Neighborhood Markets, and Sam's Clubs, which are Humana’s preferred cost-sharing pharmacies on this plan. Co-pays with this plan are as low as $0 on a 90-day supply of Tier 1 and Tier 2 medications from Humana Pharmacy.
The Humana Walmart Value Rx Plan lets customers save on generic drugs at over 5,200 Walmart, Walmart Neighborhood Markets and Sam's Club pharmacies, while enjoying affordable monthly premiums. In-store co-pays are as low as $1 on a 30-day supply of certain generic drugs at the stores listed, plus co-pays as low as $3 on a 90-day supply of Tier 1 preferred generics from Humana Pharmacy. More than 1,500 generics are included on the plan’s list of covered drugs.

Customers can potentially save time and money with prescriptions delivered right to their door by mail. This mail order service is generally considered one of the better ones in operation, and gets good customer service reviews across the board.
This is a free online tool offered by Humana that helps customers organize and track their medications. It’s easy to set up and very intuitive to use.
Humana will notify customers who are taking name prescription drugs if and when their medications become available at lower cost, as generic versions. This is a particularly helpful tool for lowering medication costs for their customer base.
