KeepSolid VPN Unlimited certainly isn't the biggest service out there right now with just 400 servers spread out over 80 worldwide locations. But it's that spread which counts, allowing you to move about the world physically, while virtually staying in one place - or vice versa, depending on what you need.

There are lots of clients for great compatibility and you can set up an OpenVPN GUI is you need, although this isn't quite as simple as running a client. From kill switches to DNS leak support, you can expect a good level of service no matter how you connect. Expect good support in terms of information laid out on the company's site but if you're hoping for 24/7 live chat help you'll be let wanting. That said, you do have email support from the site and can even add attachments which is a nice touch if you want to use screenshots to show your issue. Overall, it's a worthy addition to our best VPN services guide, if not at the top of the list.

KeepSolid VPN Unlimited review: Privacy

Security is strong no matter where you're going since this crams in a lot of protocols. That includes all the usual like OpenVPN, L2TP/IPSec, IKEv2, and PPTP but also uses the more recent WireGuard as part of the deal.

As if all that wasn't enough you also the company's own KeepSolid Wise which sends traffic via TCP 443 and UDP 33434 to add even more detecting and blocking protection. This Wise protocol is specifically useful in countries like China, Iran and Saudi Arabia where being caught could mean trouble.

Privacy was also a bit of a let down as there is no chat of zero logging as with some VPN providers. This will actually collect information on IP addresses; device name, code, manufacturer and language; time zone, connection time and wifi network name; and the total amount of traffic for each session, along with session dates.

KeepSolid VPN Unlimited review: Features and apps

Clients are plentiful with Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, Linux and Apple TV all covered. You can also use the VPN via a browser extension for Chrome, Firefox and Opera.

Manually setting up OpenVPN GUI or other OpenVPN-compatible apps is more of a challenge. Unlike most VPNs, KeepSolid doesn't have a single archive with all the .ovpn configuration files you need. Instead you must generate them, one by one, from the website.

You are limited to five device connections at a time. This is a downside as you have to allot device to each slot and can only change them one at a time, one per week. Not ideal, and services like CyberGhost offer more here.

KeepSolid VPN Unlimited review: Speed

KeepSolid VPN Unlimited is certainly rapid enough with top speeds of 150Mbps on our 475Mbps testing line. While checking these servers, we also used geolocation libraries and ping checks to confirm their real locations.

Expect speeds to slow over longer distances and in particular Malaysia can be very slow. For torrents you can expect the speeds to vary depending on your location. While P2P is supported it's only in five locations: Canada, USA, France, Luxembourg, Romania. If speed is a concern, we'd definitely look at something like Hotspot Shield here.

KeepSolid VPN Unlimited review: Pricing

The pricing for VPN Unlimited is decent starting at $9.99 for a month to month subscription. But commit a little bit more, to an annual subscription and you'll be paying half that at $5 per month.

Or if you're really happy with the service then you can get the lifetime subscription at a one off price of $199.99. So that's $16.67 if you only use it for a year, $5.56 over three years, $3.33 for five years, and so on. So, essentially, you'll need to use this for over five years if you want to compete with the competition's pricing.

Thankfully there is a 7-day free trial so you can give this a go before you commit to any longer term commitment.

Should I buy KeepSolid VPN Unlimited?

If you don't mind some logging of your IP information and aren't in need of the top speeds and most servers available then this will serve your needs. If you plan to use this more five years or more then that one-off lifetime pricing option could save you a lot of money in the long run. Also, if lots of layers of security are important to you, then this is a very comprehensively secure service. Overall, it can't touch the likes of ExpressVPN, but it is cheaper and with excellent security.
