Pros / It provides identity monitoring for children.

Cons / There’s no option for free credit monitoring.

Verdict / IdentityForce has some of the most comprehensive identity monitoring features we saw. It offers credit reports on a quarterly basis.

IdentityForce is a long-established name in the identity protection sphere. The plan we reviewed, the UltraSecure+Credit, costs $23.99 a month, which includes the complete identity monitoring suite as well as credit monitoring. If you only want identity protection, the UltraSecure plan covers your personal identifying information. Both plans have a 14-day free trial. You can also pay annually, which saves you the equivalent of two monthly payments.

With the UltraSecure+Credit plan, you receive quarterly updates on your Experian, Equifax and TransUnion reports. By law you’re entitled to one free credit report a year from each of the three bureaus. By getting more frequent access you have a clearer idea of your credit and can spot errors or discrepancies before they have any impact on your credit. Quarterly access is good, though we do like services that provide monthly or anytime access to your reports.

You also get anytime access to your credit scores. The score offered by IdentityForce uses the TransRisk model. This is an educational score created from TransUnion data. An educational score means that the numbers you see through IdentityForce won’t necessarily be the same as those used by lenders when making decisions. TransRisk uses a 300 to 850 scale that is very similar to FICO scores. Since it’s an educational score and is calculated differently from FICO scores, you may see some variations between the two scores.

Experts recommend paying as much attention to your reports as you do the score. The reports show the underlying data that make up your scores, and if you find errors or discrepancies, getting those removed can have a positive effect on your score and increase your credit utilization.

IdentityForce provides some additional tools for monitoring your credit. The credit score simulator lets you see how getting a new credit card or loan, or paying off an existing line of credit, can affect your score. You can even see how different amounts will affect it. There’s also a score tracker that plots your score over time so you can see how your financial habits can change your score. You’ll also be able to access your information through the IdentityForce mobile app.

Once of the main benefits of signing up for a service such as IdentityForce is that it will alert you of any suspicious activity on your accounts. If someone uses your information to open a new line of credit, you’ll be notified by email or text or through the app. Then IdentityForce will work with you to resolve the issue.

One of the best ways to protect your credit from fraud is by putting a freeze on your credit reports. Unfortunately there’s no way to do this through IdentityForce. This is something you’ll need to contact each of the bureaus individually about. Usually there’s a small fee associated with freezing your account. When you activate the freeze you’ll get a PIN you’ll use to open your account if you apply for credit.

If you do find an error on one of your credit reports, IdentityForce lets you easily submit disputes through your dashboard. You just click the Dispute link and send your request directly to whichever bureau’s report the error is on.

The area where IdentityForce stands out the most is in the identity monitoring tools it provides. With the UltraSecure +Credit plan you get complete monitoring of your personal information such as Social Security numbers, driver’s license, phone number and email addresses. IdentityForce also has advanced tools that check to see if your address has been changed or if someone has gotten a payday loan using your identity. It also checks your social media profiles to ensure that they haven’t been hacked.

If your identity is compromised, IdentityForce works with you to resolve any issues. The agents you work with can help you file police reports and in some cases help you work with private investigators to clear up any fraud on your accounts. If your wallet is lost or stolen, IdentityForce will help you quickly cancel and replace any lost cards.

If you have children, you can opt into the ChildWatch feature for no additional cost. This monitors the personal identifying information of your children and alerts you if anyone uses that information to open a line of credit or otherwise engage in fraudulent activity. Identity fraud using children’s information is becoming increasingly prevalent, so this is an important feature to consider using.
